Village Vets
During the Oct. 28 Village Vets General
Meeting, our annual elections were held.
There were no nominations from the
floor. The elected board members for
2022 will be David Hefler, Commander;
Tom Brennan, Vice Commander; Sandee
Lang, Secretary and Bob Smith, Treasurer.
Other Board members for 2022 will
be Past Commander Jack Shabel; Greg
Coffey; Kay Preston; Jim McDonough;
David Hyde and Larry Soukup.
Last month I wrote about Congress
considering whether or not to require
US resident women, 18 to 26 years' old to
register for the draft. It now appears that the
current National Defense Authorization
Act (NDAA) will include the requirement
for young women to register for the draft,
although we currently have all volunteer
military members. Surprisingly one of
the main reasons for including women,
is that the government determined that
currently an estimated 70 percent of 18 to
26 year olds could not meet the physical
and psychological standards for military
service. This is one of the reasons, it is felt
important to maintain an all-volunteer
force for as long as possible.
Please remember us on Do Dues Day,
Sat., Jan. 8, 2022, and sign up for Village
Vets membership. You can also submit
your $10 annual dues for 2022 any time at
the Clubhouse front desk. If you will be a
new member please include, "2022 dues"
a phone number or email address so we
can contact you for more information
and make sure you get our monthly Bugle
publication. We will continue to support
our OHCC veterans, their families, and
active-duty military in many ways with
your support.
For our next Village Vets Club general
meeting, on Jan. 27, 2022, at 3 pm in
Abravenal Hall, our guest speaker will be
the someone who was in the headlines
last year and has a very interesting current
and historical story to tell. Refreshments
will be served.
