| OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2022 | 15 Village Squares What a wonderful time of the year! Dec. 9 saw couples twirling and dancing to the music of Mike Haworth, as square dance once again came alive after our long hiatus. There were 45 people who signed up to celebrate the season and return to our much-loved form of dancing. The evening began with a bit of socializing and greeting friends, some of whom we hadn't seen for a while. Then we feasted on a traditional meal of turkey, dressing, and all the trimmings, provided by Bobby's Hideaway and served buffet style by board members. It was a veritable feast! The highlight of the evening, however, was when we got to dust off our dancing shoes and get out on the floor. We were all a bit rusty after such a long time, but we started dancing and found that most calls came back to us, even though it might require a bit of concentration. Our caller did talk us through a number of steps to help us out. We laughed off our mistakes and just enjoyed the experience of dancing! It was a wonderful night, and we thank our board members who worked so hard to make this all happen. Special thanks to Steve Ward and Linda Drapeau, who agreed to serve as co-presidents, and to Janet Lutman and Phyllis Buvel, our co-vice-presidents, who were in charge of set-up and decorating, and also to all who helped out. It was a delightful evening. Line Dancers Welcome to the new Board of Directors. What a great team of some of OHCC's most enthusiastic Line Dancers; dedicated to keeping Line Dancing available to all the residents. One of the first things they wish to do is to remove the word "Village" from "Village Line Dancers'" name so it can be found more easily in the list of our many clubs here. Many thanks to our previous Board who served for three years: Valdene Ramrus, President; Carol Ann Ferrol, Vice President; Mary McGee, former Treasurer, Marlene Tanner, current Treasurer; and Lynn Murphy, recording Secretary. We all are all so very thankful to our webmaster, Mary McGee, who completely re-did our entire web site and has been maintaining it for three years. Kathy Kelsey has graciously offered to be our new webmaster this year. Another VIP in our Club is Dory Gonzales Graham. Dory assists with all the classes by learning every routine in advance and supporting the instruction. In Line Dancing, when our dance routine turns us away from our instructor in the front of the room, we can depend on Dory who is in the back of the room, for doing the dance correctly so we can follow her. Our program would not be as successful as it is without our fabulous and talented instructor, Christine Alesiani. She keeps all three levels of classes challenging while being fun. She is always well prepared, finding us choreographed routines set to great music. We are so thankful to Christine for keeping her days open in her work schedule during our COVID shut down so that she could resume classes on our schedule. Check the OHCC weekly calendar for any changes, but January's scheduled classes are generally in Abravanel Hall Observe a class or pay and participate in one or two classes before joining. Dues are $10 per person, per year. You can pick up a copy of our Club flyer with membership form attached from the information rack in the Clubhouse. Our schedule is: • Beginners: Thursdays, 2:30-3:30 pm (check for location) • Improver: Mondays, 12:30 - 2 pm • Intermediate: Tuesdays, 10:30 am - 12 pm Line Dancers new Board of Directors.
