On Jan. 12, we will begin Cha-Cha dance lessons. Cha-Cha is a fun dance that originated in Cuba and evolved from a slow version of Cuban Mambo. It became very popular in the United States in the mid-1950s. It has been described as an "exuberant dance that will get your heart pumping and put a smile on your face." Cha-Cha has become one of the most popular Latin dances in the world. Ballroom Dance has Practice Parties on Mondays, weekly starting on Jan. 3 in Abravanel Hall from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. Experienced OHCC dancers will review Wednesday's lessons and provide help upon request. You can practice your dancing to a variety of ballroom music. The party is FREE, just drop in. 14 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2022 | Doo Wop and Disco Dance Club On Dec. 3, the Dance Troupe installed its 2022 board at a lovely dinner/dance. Carolyn Webber and her helpers decorated the hall with a sophisticated theme. The dinner, which was catered by Hunter's Steakhouse, included delicious prime rib and salmon. We danced to Music Station with our teacher, Yvonne, leading us in several line dances. It was so much fun to finally be able to dress up and spend an evening with a bunch of friends. In all, it was a wonderful way to end the year. Now we look forward to 2022, and our show which will be held in April. The choreography is being finalized, our costumes are almost ready, and we are practicing like crazy. All so that we can share our love of dancing with you. Those of us for whom this will be our first show have a little apprehension mixed with the excitement, but our more experienced friends tell us we will love performing. The Dance Troupe welcomes new members whether you are new to dance or have experience. We have classes in jazz, tap, Hawaiian, and belly dancing. If you are interested in tap or jazz, please contact Allison Stewart at als2art@gmail.com. If you are interested in Hawaiian dancing, please contact Valerie Thompson at valgene2@ cox.net. If you are interested in belly dancing, please contact Sharon Lair at (760) 822-2670. Ocean Hills Dance Troupe
