20 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2022 | Happy New Year 2022 and let the events begin! We hope your holidays were memorable, joyful and festive. Thank you to those that showed their support to our staff during this holiday; we appreciated all the kindness put forth by so many. We made it through December, our busiest month of the year and January is here to help us all get organized. The big kick-off is Do Dues Day on Sat., Jan. 8 from 10 am to 2 pm. The RV Club is hosting their hot dog lunch for a mere $4 and the "dogs are delish." Bring your checkbook (what's that?), and join in on, probably, one of the biggest events of the year! Two presentations are on the Recreation calendar. We featured Michele Hebert last month, and her seminar "Secrets for Ageless Living," is coming up on Sat., Jan. 15, at 2 pm. With this basic introduction, Michele has planned a class "Relax and Revitalize," in the weeks following her seminar. She will have literature available at the seminar describing the class and the cost. This seminar is free to those who attend. Attorney Paul Greenwood is offering a seminar discussing "How to Reduce the Risk of Becoming the Next Victim of Elder Abuse," on Fri., Feb. 4, at 2:30 pm in Abravanel Hall. Paul is a well-known speaker in the community, and he will address the issues that seniors so often find themselves drawn into. An experienced lawyer with over 40 years practice - dually qualified as UK solicitor and California attorney- with a demonstrated history of working in the law enforcement environment. Skilled in elder abuse felony criminal prosecution for over 22 years, Public Speaking, Legal Writing, jury trials, assisting with drafting legislation and community advocacy. Paul has done several presentations here, and he is always so informative. The Community Services Committee continues to provide topics of interest that would benefit the OHCC membership. Our thanks to the CSC, in continuing their efforts to review matters that concern all residents. With so many of us starting off the new year with good, healthy and positive intentions, exercise goals are always at the top of the list. The Fitness Center is right out the back door and for those who have not signed a waiver to use this amenity, please stop by the Front Desk to leave one on file. Our certified fitness trainer, Cheryl Schindler is back to assist anyone that desires to know how to use the equipment. She comes on the fourth Saturday of the month from 2 to 4 pm, those dates are listed in the Fitness Rooms. Cheryl is available for private consultations. Please wear appropriate clothing, bring a towel, and wipe down the machines after use. Athletic shoes are required. Some New Year's resolutions to make you laugh: • Every New Years I resolve to lose 20 pounds. And I do. The problem is that I gain 30. • The end of the year is a good time to get rid of stuff. I started weeks ago by cleaning out my checking account. • Question: What is a New Year's resolution? Answer: Something that goes in one year and out the other. Start the 2022 New Year off right, come to the Clubhouse to laugh, make new friends, and become more active. Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director
