Last month I wrote about Congress considering whether or not to require U.S.
resident women, 18 to 26 years' old, to register for the draft. It now appears as of
December that the current National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) will not include
the requirement for young women to register for the draft.
Our next general membership meeting on Thurs., Jan. 27, at 3 pm in Abravenal Hall,
everyone is invited to attend. Our guest speaker will be Roy A Knight III who was in
the headlines in August 2019. His story involves the remains of his father Roy Knight
Jr. who was shot down over Laos in 196 7. The story is about the recovery and ultimate
return of his remains to the U.S.A. Roy may talk about his involvement in POW/MIA
legislation. Refreshments will be served.
As of Dec. 1, 2021, with the approved Congressional Budget, all veteran compensation
benefits have increased six percent to match the adjustments made by the Social
Security benefit's increase. This increase includes retirement military pensions as well
disability pensions.
The latest news involving COVID-19 unvaccinated Army personnel is "Soldiers who
refuse to get vaccination against COVID-19 aren't getting booted out of the military but
cannot stay in the military for a career."
