It was exactly one year ago today that I wrote my first article for the library news. I remember wondering what I would say when we had just endured one of the worst years of our lives. COVID had stunned us, taken from us, and left us running on empty. Looking back, I am once again reminded of the strength of the human spirit and the will to survive. 2021 arrived and with it came hope that things would be better, and they were. A vaccination became available, slowly restrictions were lifted, the Clubhouse gradually opened, classes and activities began again. People slowly emerged from their cloistered lifestyle and laughter was once again in the air. The doors of the library were open, and people found comfort once again in what has been described as the living room of OHCC, where literature lives, endures, and prevails. We open 2022 with Do Dues Day on Sat., Jan. 8 from 10 am to 2 pm in Abravanel Hall. We encourage current library members as well as new ones to drop by and bring a check for $15 per household. A table will be set up in the hall, and the library will be staffed to also take your membership dues and answer any questions. You may also drop your check at the front desk and request that it is put into the library club envelope. Remember your HOA dues do not include any funds designated for the operation of our library. Our library is operated with our membership dues and donations only. It is totally self-sustaining. Our library is open to all residents. Any resident can take a book from the open shelves. Reserved books, however, are checked out to members only during library hours of operation. Members can request a specific title, and they will be called when the book is available for pickup. Feel free to come in and browse the selections at any time. Don't forget to check the shelves of the local resident authors, and the wide selections of the Classics. Military, History and Art books are also available. Where else can you get so much for $15? I close with a beautiful message sent to all the volunteers of OHCC Living magazine by Lisa Wise: "I have a wooden sign on my door that says it all for me. 'When you LOVE what you have, you have EVERYTHING you need.' Home is different for all of us, but with the next year coming soon, we have another chance to appreciate today and tomorrow." Thank you, Lisa. Let 2022 be a wonderful year. ~Sally Benton Library Association JANUARY BOOK BUYS
