Theatre Arts 12 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2022 | We've had so much going on, we had to carve out time to write about it all! Theatre Arts' Play Readers presented their last Zoom Play production for 2021 on Dec. 15 and it was well attended by members as well as OHCC residents. Our actors were Sunny Griffin, as "Starlight Moon," Joe Ashby, as "Officer Brody," (pictured below L-R)and Sherrie Scoby, as "Captain Ellen," in the screwball comedy The Speeding Ticket, by Bob Naquin. Pictured above (L-R) are Roslyn Nesler, as "Rachel," and Jody Gorran, as "Jake" in the delightful comedy Bagels, by Art Schulman. Thank you to our director, Anita Simons, and producer, Jody Gorran. Not pictured is the cast of The Prize because they will be performing live on the OHCC stage for our Monday night Jan. 3 meeting in 2022! Also performing will be the cast of Gin And Tonic and It's Not About Pot Roast. Rather than watch at home on your computer screen, you will get to see them perform on stage in Abravanel Hall for a staged reading. We hope to see you in person for this first of many live performances planned for 2022. Sally Benton reports that Actors' Workshop is busy preparing Readers' Theatre scripts, including finding a theme to center the literature around and adding favorite authors and different types of literature. The current assignment revolves around the theme "Take A Chance." Two groups will perform for each other in the near future. We are also working on a performance of the childhood classic, The Littlest Angel. Best of all, we are having fun and learning all about stage acting. All we need now is an audience! Please consider joining by contacting Sally (moki2@cox.net). Classes are Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, in the Majorca Room. Our Dec. 6 party - Curtains Up – Let the Party Begin – was a huge success. All in attendance had a really good time. Join Theatre Arts so you can participate in all of our entertainment and activities. Please bring a check to the front desk for annual dues in the amount of $10 per person to be put in the Theatre Arts' folder. Make sure your check has your name, address, phone number and email address on it. Best of all, join us at Do Dues Day from 10 am to 2 pm on Jan. 8 to meet some of our members and get a taste of what we have in store for 2022. We'll accept membership checks there, as well. Our next Board meeting is scheduled for Jan. 20 at noon, in the Majorca Room. Board meetings are open to all members, so please do come and join us. Check out our new and improved website, where you can read of our activities, read past OHCC Living articles, and explore our past and future productions. http://www.ohccdg.wixsite.com/theatrearts. Choral Society With our concert, "Songs of Good Cheer," behind us, we'd like to recognize some special people who worked very hard behind the scenes. As members of the Audio/Visual Team: Joan Bivin, Janice Hart, Myrna Weber, and Steve Malone provided us with excellent support. We couldn't have done it without them! Looking forward, it hardly seems possible that we are already beginning to make plans for our Spring Concert in May. Our first rehearsal will be on Feb. 3 at 10:30 am in Abravanel Hall. Consider joining the Chorale for the next concert. It's a fun group of people who are passionate about the art of choral music. Come and chat with us at Do Dues Day, or if you have questions, contact Karen Walker at (760) 305-8701. You can also leave an envelope with a check made out to the Choral Society at the front desk. The annual dues are $20.
