Our first OHSPA concert for 2022 will be Sat., Feb. 26 and tickets will go on sale Tues., Jan. 25 in Abravanel Hall at 7:30 am. This concert is name recognition at its best! FOUR BY FOUR… America's most enduring vocal group! A stellar cast of four incredible entertainers perform the legendary hits of four of the most iconic musical styles in pop music history. Four By Four skillfully presents some of the most memorable songs of our time. I Want to Hold Your Hand, She Loves You, Hard Day's Night, Can't Buy Me Love, Yesterday, Eleanor Rigby and Let It Be are just a few of the hits you'll hear made famous by The Beatles. The brothers Gibb, known as The Bee Gees, brought their unique sound to hits such as Nights on Broadway, Jive Talkin', How Deep Is Your Love and Staying Alive. You will hear Surfin' USA, California Girls, Barbara Ann, Kokomo, Good Vibrations and many more hits by The Beach Boys. The newest club in OHCC is Save the Monarch Butterfly Club. The project began when Myra Esler and Rona Cole learned of the near extinction of Western Monarchs in California due primarily to the use of pesticides. They joined an effort by hundreds of individuals and organizations across the country to stop the rapid decline. With the support of the Master Board and hundreds of OHCC residents, a butterfly sanctuary is being built in "The Park" behind Andros Way, and more than 200 milkweed plants have been planted in the backyards of residents' homes. The Sanctuary is expected to be in operation by late February, when the Western Monarchs (which do not migrate to Mexico like other butterflies) will be returning from the inland area to lay their eggs. It will be open for all residents to stroll along the inner path to watch the wondrous life cycle of a Monarch from egg to butterfly. Multiple flower garden in the Sanctuary will attract many other butterflies that are also threatened such as the Painted Lady, the Cloudless Sulphur, the Cabbage White, the Mourning Cloak, and others. The new club will be led by Myra Esler, President; Rona Cole, Vice President; Dorothy Miller, Secretary; and Diane Hillman, Treasurer. They will be looking for Directors to lead the major committees that will be needed to maintain and fund the sanctuary, do research, and help homeowners establish and maintain backyard butterfly gardens. The club also will have its own OHCC website to provide regular information about the sanctuary and club activities. The club currently has almost 300 supporters and we encourage anyone interested in serving on these committees to contact Myra Esler (mke6717@gmail.com) or Rona Cole (ronacole@me.com.)
