Art Lovers The Art Lovers had a busy and exciting year culminating in our lovely Holiday Luncheon. Our keynote speaker, Maria Mingalone (at right), Executive Director of the Oceanside Museum of Art, told us about the many programs the organization provides. We are, indeed, very fortunate to have such a lively and enriching institution in our community. Thanks to Zoom, we were able to view and interact with two local artists/ sculptors. Scott Bruckner began sculpting in 1995 working with found objects and castoff construction materials. Scott's works have won multiple awards in local exhibitions. His specialty is standing wood pieces using rare woods. Another sculptor who presented her works on Zoom was Eileen Sprague who works mostly in stone. She talked about the various materials she uses and their qualities. Eileen also showed us an array of tools that she employs while creating her art. We visited several local art venues too. In June we were welcomed by Maria Mingalone, at the Oceanside Museum of Art who told us how she and staff members were so happy to have visitors back at the museum again. OMA, in conjunction with the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas, presented a sculpture show at the gardens. Our own Ernie Pick, as well as Scott Bruckner, were honored to have their works chosen for this exhibit. Other trips we took were to Fallbrook Art Center's Watermedia Exhibition, a guided tour of the Veterans Art Project's Foundry, Barrio Glassworks in Carlsbad and Frida Kahlo's Garden exhibit at the William Cannon Gallery in Carlsbad. In October in the Clubhouse, we enjoyed a talk by Robin Douglas from the Oceanside Museum of Art who explained the difference between Modern Art and Contemporary Art. In November we were delighted by the Rosemaling art of Astrid Fisher, seen above in her native garb, as she demonstrated this old, Norwegian art.
