| OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2022 | 27 Art Room Happy New Year Ocean Hills residents! We are delighted to introduce you to the fun mosaic pebble art created by Tatis Cervantes Aiken. She shares her story: "I discovered Pebble Art just by accident. When my husband and I moved to Ocean Hills four years ago, I was searching for tile ideas to remodel the bathroom shower and found several natural stone tile options. During this search, an unsolicited website displaying pebble artwork, and showcasing a beautiful Owl, just popped up on my screen… and that was it for me! I was captivated and hooked into learning more about pebble art, then came the madness of looking to find pebble stones everywhere. It took me a year to recreate the Owl shown on the picture. The stones I used for this piece came from Greece, the only place where I could find flat stones with the size and shape that I needed. The biggest challenge about pebble artwork is to find exactly the right stones for each piece, time and a lot of patience." Mid-month Judy Harris and Lainy Vinikow will be doing a new Art Studio installation, as we continue to feature our outstanding resident artists, including two pebble mosaics by Tatis. Again, we thank our GUYS for another outstanding display of It's A Guy Thing during the recent months: Frank Boynton, Mike McCaslin, Tom Murphy, Ernie Pick, Malcolm Reinhardt, Harvey Tilker and Gary Warmuth! Woodchucks The recent Donation Drive-Thru & Walkabout Toy Drive was a magnificent display of the generosity and caring that makes us proud to be part of Ocean Hills Country Club. Our Woodchuck team, along with the Garden Club, the Sewing Club, the Vets Club, and the Chorale all brought forth the joy of giving to the children of our Camp Pendleton Marine families. We raised over $14,000 in cash donations, $2,000 in gift cards, 10 banquet tables overflowing with donated toys, 300+ beautiful Christmas stockings, along with the hundreds of handmade toys from our Woodchuck shop… thanks be to all! The Woodchucks are busy restocking and organizing the best little woodshop ever. For all OHCC members who enjoy working with wood, the shop is just minutes away and has the finest equipment available. The tools are yours to use for that special project, your "honey-do" list, or to give back to others. As we use the shop, some Woodchucks like to pay it forward by building wheel-chair ramps, window security rods, blue-bird houses, helping neighbors, and of course, building toys. To join the Woodchucks, just leave a $10 check along with your information, at the front desk, or come see us on Do Dues Day, Sat., Jan. 8. A Woodchuck member does not need to work in the shop. You might want to join because you support the Woodchuck goals. But if you do want woodshop privileges, you will receive the procedure information for the required annual safety and orientation that allows you to work in the woodshop. We hope that you join us! Stay safe and well for this new year.
