Wishing each and every one of you a Happy Valentine's Day! Enjoy the time you have together. Take a walk, listen to the music of the 40s or 50s, or just sit and enjoy the flowers and sunshine together. Life is so precious and so very short. Our next meeting and support group will be on Thurs., Feb. 17 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. There is no guest speaker this month. This will give each of you time to share, if you choose to, and also learn. This group is for you, the caregiver. Don't forget about our program in the Arts & Crafts Room. We entertain your loved one while you enjoy the meeting. We are here for ALL CAREGIVERS, no matter who you care for and no matter what disease they suffer from. If you have any questions, would like to learn more about Memory Loss, or would like reading material that we can loan you, call Diane at (951) 769-0130, Doug at (360) 840- 5559, or Anne at (951) 845-8700. Remember we are here to help. Here are the third and fourth of eight types of Dementia. 3. LEWY BODY DEMENTIA: Lewy body dementia is a disease associated with abnormal deposits of a protein called alpha-synuclein in the brain. These deposits form clumps which accumulate in nerve cells in the area of brain responsible for memory, motor control, and thinking. Lewy body dementia is related to Parkinson's disease, in which the alpha-synuclein proteins build up first in the part of the brain that controls movement and may spread over time to the areas responsible for memory and cognition. 4. FRONTOTEMPORAL DEMENTIA: Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is less common, affecting 60,000 Americans per year, however, it is the most common type of dementia for people under the age of 60, according to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration. Frontotemporal dementia is an umbrella term for a group of brain disorders that primarily affect the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. These areas of the brain are generally associated with personality, behavior and language. In frontotemporal dementia, portions of these lobes shrink. | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2022 | 37 Caregiver Support Group February is the month we celebrate both St. Valentine's Day and President's Day. We can anticipate that some members of the Sun Lakes Creative Writers group will share odes they have written to their sweethearts during one (or both) of our monthly meetings this month. Note on your calendars for Tues., Feb. 8 and Wed., Feb. 16 at 1 to 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Pardon the digression about our calendar. Moving along… rather than sharing a poem, others may prefer to share a brief essay we've written to a loved one. Regardless of the genre, we can expect to be impressed by the creativity exhibited in our meetings. In each meeting, there is always praise for what is written and shared with each other, suggestions of one kind or another are shared when merited, and we all learn something about how we write and how that helps to communicate our thoughts into written words. Some of our writing is represented by humor, some with mystery, some are biographical, there are historical essays, and there are other stories reporting and analyzing some specific topic based on the writers' research. Let us not expect this month's writing to be focused solely on hearts and kisses and flowers for our sweethearts. We can anticipate, perhaps, having something reflecting on our nation's presidents born in February. President's Day tends to focus on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, yet we could just as well consider the other February-born presidents: William Henry Harrison (Feb. 9, 1773) and Ronald Reagan (Feb. 6, 1911). We all remember Harrison. Right? Simply mentioning Harrison provides an example of how much fun and educational the creative writers' meetings can be. Hey, fellow Sun Lakers… Come, join us. All Sun Lakes' residents are invited to be part of our group and become contributors of your thoughts and ideas. Share a couple hours of your time listening to other's writings and enjoy the camaraderie of appreciating the written word. If you have any questions or want additional information, please contact Roger Smith by telephone at (951) 769-2808 or email at: rlswriter@verizon.net. He will answer any questions you have; about Creative Writers, that is. We look forward to having you join us.
