Happy Valentine's Day from Seasons Quilters to all our friends
and neighbors. The "heart" is a favorite shape and pattern among
quilters and can be traced back to the 18th century. Naming specific
blocks, and cataloging names was sporadic for many years, becoming
more commonplace early in the 20th century. Upon researching
some of these 'romantic themes' Cupid's own, Cupid's arrow, hearts
and flowers, hearts delight, and the always popular bridal gift quilt,
double wedding ring, are just a few patterns synonymous with love.
Then there was the rare find of hearts and gizzards… doesn't sound
very romantic. However, for the individual whom inspired it, perhaps
it carried its own unique message of love at the end of Cupid's well-
aimed arrow!
Following our own arrow, our BoHo Heart pattern will soon be
taking shape as many of us continue to learn the complexities of
piecing together different sized blocks, the importance of contrast
and value, and the significance of proper ruler measurements. (Lest
the darling seam ripper become our forever Valentine!) We will soon
be choosing background fabric, which for this particular pattern will
be crucial in order for the "heart shape" to pop.
Our club continues to add new members every month, and we
are particularly excited to welcome some of our newest neighbors
who have chosen to call Four Seasons home. Sewing together twice
a month has become time we all look
forward to, and for those not working
on the BoHo Heart pattern, other's
projects in the making are fun to
see. We are a diverse group, both in
experience and creativity, with the
shared passion for quilting.
Meeting in the Aerobics
Room gives us adequate space,
wonderful lighting, room for, (to
date) 12 sewing stations, and
an ironing board. Loading
and unloading our machines
is a breeze with the aid of
two dollies at our disposal, and entrance via the east gate from The
Lodge. Come check us out!
Seasons Quilters meets every first and third Thursday in the
Aerobics Room from 12 noon to 4 pm. All Four Seasons residents
are welcome to meetings and excursions.
