Long-time club members who share a long-lasting love for each other and bocce are Bob and Fran Goldstein and Mike and Joan Chunka. Bob is the club's Communications Director and Mike is Training Director for Bocce Buddies. You can find Bob and Fran on the courts most afternoons. Mike and Joan are regular Wednesday players, tournament and league participants, and offer training classes. Thanks to this talented foursome and all they do for the club. If you looking for a new way to have a special time with your sweetheart, set a weekly date for bocce. If your new to the game or would like some help making that special event, reach out to any bocce board member for assistance. March opens with Mardi Gras and our club's Mardi Gras Casino Night on March 1. Ticket information and additional details will be available at the Clubhouse and in the Bocce Club Newsletter emailed to all members. It's time to think about where you stashed the Mardi Gras costumes and get ready to have two years of Casino Night fun in one wonderful evening. Rain and cold weather forced reduced play in December with only 30 players making 109 bocces. The top three ladies for the month are Dea Abdelaziz and Mary Yotter (tied for 1st), Myrna Weber, Anita Simons and Jean Meeks (tied for 3rd). John Abdelaziz, Michael Simons and Larry Bean have top three men's slots. If you are interested in improving strength, flexibility, endurance, and overall body conditioning, then you may want to consider attending an aerobics class to see if it fits your needs. The instructor leads the class in a warm-up session followed by an aerobics session, and then she instructs the class through a cool down. Light weights are used during the last 10 minutes of class. Some of the exercises include movements to improve balance. Each student works at their work level of fitness, and the instructor demonstrates each move at different levels of intensity. Aerobics classes are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 to 11 am in Abravanel Hall. Each class is $5. You can pay for and try two classes without joining the club.
