| OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2022 | 27 Woodchucks This month's Woodchuck article is written to express our thanks to all OHCC homeowners for the impressive woodshop we enjoy. It is a special asset that is appreciated by all that love making sawdust. We observed a new resident working on his remodel with a garage full of nice tools that made parking in the garage impossible. The simple solution would be to sell the tools and join the Woodchucks… we have all the tools you will ever need. The following is a written tour of the woodshop for the newcomer residents among us. The shop is located in the maintenance yard by the RV lot entrance, off of Ocean Hills Drive (the street to the back gate.) One joins the Woodchucks by paying $10 annual dues. To have use of the shop requires annual certification: watching two online videos on safety and orientation, then signing waivers for the HOA. This will get you a badge and door code, the shop is then yours to use. As our tour begins, the first machines are the five different sanders with their own dust collection system. An old Scandinavian work bench is perfect for hand sanding, with the provided palm sander and sandpapers. In the same area are two scroll saws which are ideal for puzzle work and fine cuts. Against the wall, you will find our wood-turning lathe and a cabinet full of blades. The Bosch cut-off/radial-arm saw is a wonder of engineering. Another wonder is the remarkable Stop-Saw table saw. It has a built- in system that senses moisture (think your finger) and throws a jam- cleat into the blade, stopping it instantly. The table saw is connected to a dust collection system that automatically comes on when the tools are in use. Also on the system are our planer and joiner. There are three various-sized band saws and two professional drill presses. Included in the shop are toolboxes and lockers with all the hand tools you ever coveted, including routers with knives, hand drills with bits, handsaws, clamps, work benches, paint spray area, and wood storage. The woodshop is your tool to create your own project in wood. When you are asked, "How did you make such a wonder," you can reply, "It was easy, I just threw away all the wood that wasn't a wonder!" Oh yes and give your woodshop some credit. For $10 per year you too can have more room in your garage! Ask about our OHCC discount!
