They play every kind of music dance bands traditionally play. Add to that a few special numbers you'll not hear or see anywhere else. While you are listening or dancing there will be solos, and group artists, as well as our own Nannette, who has a voice that's pitch perfect. If you love to dance to great music, in the style of Jimmy Dorsey, or Benny Goodman, you won't want to miss this great band. For example, in my last article I told you a little about,"Toxie" the Big Band drummer, a professional who has had many years of band experience, both in the service and out. Now let me introduce you to Enoch Daniels, sax and clarinet professional. Enoch started playing the clarinet at ten years old. His parents, very musical in their own right, provided private lessons for him. While growing up he was asked to play either instrument at parties and other events. Later, he played in the Marine Corps Field Division Bands; San Diego, Quantico, Camp Lejeune, 29 Palms, Camp Pendleton, Okinawa, and Vietnam. Most of the music he played was ceremonial. The band even played for the Queen of Sweden. However, during the performance he was placed behind a tree and did not see the Queen. After 20 years in the Marine Corps, he retired. He had a second retirement from the Pest Control Business at fifty-nine. He has been married to Janey since 2003. He lives in Sun Lakes, plays golf, and enjoys many other activities. In addition to playing solos for the Big Band Dance Club, he also plays for three other bands. Mark your calendars for our Black & White dance on Sat., Nov. 23. Info., Sheila Hammer, 845-0484 or Ted Grady, 845-0359. (L to R) Enoch Daniels and Jake Henning country western dance If you have an interest in learning about the activities of the Country Western Dance Club, we will help you by having two free introductory dances in August. No charge and no obligation. Come and see what our club is about and if you are willing, you can learn a basic line dance and a basic couples dance at each of the dances. These August dances are also an opportunity for our more experienced dancers to demonstrate a few of our favorite dances. One of the really nice features of Country Western dancing is that everyone, singles and couples, are equally welcomed to come learn a dance and have a good time. These introductory dances are on Fri., Aug. 9, and Aug. 23, at 7 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Plan on coming to either, or even better, to both. Do you have a reluctant partner? Bring them anyway to meet some new friends, have a drink, and be entertained. Who knows, they might even have a good time. In September, we will start our dance instructions with very basic dances. Line dance instruction begins on Mon., Sept. 9, 7 pm, South Clubhouse. Couples instruction begins Tues., Sept. 10, 7 pm, South Clubhouse. Our first Country Western Dance this season will be Fri., Sept. 13, at 7 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Always check our Lifestyles article for activities, times and places.
