Delegate Assembly Report Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly Over the years there have seen many, many articles written about our active community, what a wonderful place to live, what a fun place to enjoy our remaining years. During the same time frame there have been some chronic problems that have not gone away. EPAP ANIMAL RESCUE This is Sugar, a very shy sweet young female dog. She has been fostered by Helen Mattias for a couple of months. She now needs a permanent home and her own master to love. Please call Helen for more information, 797-0583. A small kitten (five to six weeks) was left abandoned at one of the guard shacks. A volunteer kept it for a couple of days then it was brought into Banning to Tender Loving Critter who specializes in cats' adoption. A runaway dog was rescued and reunited with his owner because he had proper identification. Speaking of which… Member, Steve Kneass made an appeal at the District's Delegates' Meeting to request that the Board implement a rule regarding an ID on all dogs' collars. We want to thank you, the residents, who donated towels and rugs for the strays. If there is any superfluous supply it is brought to the San Jacinto Shelter where it can always be used. We also would like to thank Evelyn Hawkins and the Stardust Dancers for their kind offer to raise funds for the us with dances, fashion show and luncheon on Aug. 28. All profits will be donated to the cause. Page 6 of your July Lifestyles has all the details or, pick up a flyer at the Reception. Our next meeting is Mon., Sept. 16, at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Info., CC, 769-4934. ATTN: This ad is not the Joke Of The Month - just a fun, clever ad for a serious business. Keep looking! Your communication link to the community, the District Delegate, has written many times in your newsletter about our driving problems. Driving 40 or 50 miles an hour on our streets, breaking 30 or 40 control arms at our gates, never stopping at the stop signs, little kids driving our carts and the list goes on and on. I guess we will have to kill a resident before we pay attention to the rules. The near misses going in and out of our Main Clubhouse and entering Riviera at Gate 3 from Sun Lakes Blvd. is an adventure in driving skills. Seeing a 10 year old go through a stop sign and make a left turn in front of traffic in a golf cart gets your attention in a hurry. It appears as we grow older we develop an attitude, "no one is going to tell me what to do!" Since we all know the rules, how about slowing down a bit and using the brake at the signs, you might save a life and it could be your own. It can be said we have too many rules, but they are in place for our benefit. When we are reminded of a rule we are breaking, (STAND BACK EVERYONE), here comes the venom and the four letter words from men and women alike. This happens too often on the golf course and at the swimming pools. The rules are not that difficult to understand nor that difficult to follow. The reason for the rules is simple enough — to protect the golfers and to preserve our wonderful golf courses, to allow our residents enjoyment at our pools. Golf courses are not parks to stroll or have children use bunkers as sand boxes, or take your dog for a run in the open spaces. Our swimming pools are not local plunges having kids jumping in and out splashing everyone. Everyone knows most of our residents want privacy to enjoy our amenities. Over the years we have been bombarded with the request to extend swimming hours for children. After many requests the hours were extended on holidays. Even with that concession, each year new requests are made for more extensions. It appears the Board of Directors is well aware of the attitude of our community and will no longer honor any request. All homeowners associations must have bylaws, CC&Rs and rules and regulations. It is exactly the same as a small town with all of its ordnances and laws. Without them neither entity could function for the common good of their community. Whatever city or town we came from we were law abiding citizens, why can't we be the same at Sun Lakes Country Club? We have the best adult community in the world, enjoy it and allow your fellow residents to enjoy it too. 4 | sun lakes lifestyles | august 2013 | community news
