paisano club drama club Sun Lakes Sizzling Summer is upon us. But the summer heat does not keep the activities or the enthusiasm at bay. We are always active, always enthused. And rightly so! Our July meeting was a grandiose celebration of Independence Day with an all-American game of bingo. Traditional American menu included hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, etc., plus pound cake with berries. Paisano members and their friends are joining with the Recreation Department to go to Del Mar Racetrack in August. No August meeting will be held. September's meeting will be at North Clubhouse for a riproaring night of Bocce, pizza, salads, and fun, fun, fun. We will have the "experts" help with teaching us the ins and outs of Bocce. Everyone knows that the experts are Jim and Dutch Curry. You won't want to miss this one! Showcased this month is Judy Garthwaite. Judy has served as entertainment chair for more than two years and has been essential in providing a variety of entertainment, games, etc. All her energy and hard work has resulted in monthly meetings that are fun and different and we all thank her for her dedication and creativity. Info., Dee Nicoletti, 846-3096. Tickets are still available for the annual August Concert on Sun., Aug. 4, at 2 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. The Horizon Chamber Players will present a recital for violin and piano, with virtuoso solo pieces for both instruments, pieces by Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Liszt, and Ravel and more. The Horizon Chamber Players is led by violinist Maki Sowash, daughter-in-law of Drama Club President, Lorene Sowash. Joining Maki are pianists Kaoru Hagishima and Emiko Nakamura. There is one performance only and seating is limited. A reception will follow the performance at the South Clubhouse and will consist of champagne and substantial hors d' oeuvres. Attendance for the reception is limited to 100. Ticket prices are: concert $8, reception $5. Info., Lorene Sowash, 769-9999. Our fall play has been chosen and cast. "Miracle on South Division Street" is a funny story with a surprise ending, and will star Sallie Smelker, Lynn Lewis, Pat Naylor and Mark Faber.
