garden club Our regular general meeting is held on the second Wednesday of the month in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom at 10 am. Membership is $15 per year. All residents of Sun Lakes are welcome to join. Do you want to serve on a committee? There are many areas of interest in our club and new volunteers are always welcome. To keep a wonderful club like ours new, people are always welcome on the board or a committee. New people bring new ideas. To find out what opportunities are available, just ask us. It doesn't cost anything and you aren't obligated by inquiring. We appreciate all who support us and would love to have more volunteers. Leonore Will is our speaker at the Aug. 14 meeting. Lenore is retired from the National Forest Service and continues to volunteer as the coordinator for the Penny Pines Project, which you have all contributed to over the years to reforest our local forests. She will answer questions we may have concerning this very worthwhile project. Over the years, our members have contributed $25,000 to this program. Thank you all. SEES CANDY: We still have gift certificates on hand for you to give as gifts. On hand are Lollipops and Peanut Brittle. Chocolate will not be available until October. Info., Mary or Don Ruygrok, 845-1296. KATELLA DELI & CERRITOS MALL, Aug. 13, $25 pp: The Cerritos Mall is anchored by Nordstroms, Sears, Macy's. This is a very large mall with many clothing and specialty stores. Lunch on own at the mall or you can eat at the famous Katella Deli. HUNTINGTON LIBRARY: Sept. 30, $35 pp includes entrance fee and transportation and tip for driver. $38 additional, Tea Luncheon (optional). Lunch is available on site on own. Wear those comfortable shoes because there is a lot of walking. GRAND TRADITION ESTATE & GARDENS FALLBROOK, Oct. 15: This is one of the most beautiful and cared for properties you will ever see. It is pristine and you will be awed by the knowledge of the docents. The cost of this trip is $65 which includes the bus and tip and a wonderful buffet lunch and the tour of the beautiful grounds. You won't want to miss this one. Wear your walking shoes and bring a hat. THE WELK THEATER, Nov. 21, Dinner & Show. The show is "Hairspray." $80 pp bus, dinner and show. SEPTEMBER EVENT: Sept. 11, Luncheon – "FALL FROLIC" – This event happens on Patriot Day which is a day to honor our heroes. Entertainment, door prizes and 50/50. A fall menu will be offered. PLANT A ROW: The food planted and raised at Dysart Park by the Plant A Row program is donated to our local Pass area kitchens such as Carol's Kitchen and Table of Plenty. All of the planting beds available have been adopted and have been planted. Look for their famous "onions" in July. SUMMER FRUIT PICKING: Don't let that fruit that is falling off your fruit trees go to waste! Call the "Gleaning Team." Let them come pick that remaining fruit to share with our local kitchens that feed the hungry. Please don't just let it fall to the ground uneaten. DONATIONS FOR CHARITY: Thank you for all your donations of shampoo, conditioner and soaps. We give those to our local charities that feed the hungry and they are passed on to those that are in need of them. Please continue to donate all the items that you have so generously given over the years. Please continue to bring those discarded cell phones, eye glasses, stuffed animals and small suitcases or back packs.
