young at heart August is the month for our Pool Party and Barbecue, and PLEASE NOTE: There has been a CHANGE IN LOCATION for this event. THE POOL PARTY WILL NOW BE HELD AT THE NORTH CLUBHOUSE POOL, rather than the Main Clubhouse pool. Having experienced weather in triple digits lately, a cool pool is the perfect place to be. You have until Aug. 11, to make your call to either Sandy Richman at 769-7595 or Cheryl Chapman at 845-3018 to let them know you'll attend this fun summer function. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served. All you need to do is bring your own drinks and a side dish to share – no desserts. Also, please remember, NO GLASS at the pool. This event is free of charge. Open to ALL Sun Lakes residents will be the Black Tie Dinner Dance on Sat., Sept. 28. Cocktails will be served at 5:30 pm, dinner at 6:30 pm. Music will be by The Skyline Express. Checks should be made payable to Young At Heart in the amount of $30 pp for Young At Heart members, or $35 for non-members. Please deliver your checks to Michele Walter at 4713 Skyview Circle by Sept. 23. Groups wishing to sit together MUST submit all checks together – NO EXCEPTIONS. Only tables of eight will be available. In the past, this has proven to be a wonderful evening of relaxing with friends and enjoying a delightful dinner and some terrific music. Don't miss it. Still to come this year are the following events: our Beer and Brats party in October, the annual golf tournament in November, and of course the final event, our New Year's Eve party. To become a member of Young At Heart, simply pay your dues of $10 pp, payable to Young At Heart, to Treasurer Peggy Huetten. Deliver your checks to Peggy's house at 5984 Spanish Trail. We hope to see many of you at the final "Music Under the Stars" the last day of August, from 6 to 9 pm on the veranda and driving range. 30 | sun lakes lifestyles | august 2013 | creative writers A few thousand years ago, a hairy caveman put a mark on a cave wall and told his friends that it meant that while he was out hunting for saber tooth tigers his mother-in-law came to visit and rearranged his cave. His friends told him that the mark was not very clear on the subject and years later writing was invented. True story. And that is why we have a creative writers group here at Sun Lakes. Our group meets every first Monday from 3 to 5 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Our next meeting is Aug. 5. Whether you are a novice, a pro or something in between you will both enjoy and benefit from our meetings. You will get helpful suggestions on your work in progress and be entertained by the writings of fellow members. A five minute challenge is the highlight of every meeting where we take a subject as innocuous as say the word "why," or "what one wish could you have," and create paragraphs right there on the spot. They are often humorous, sometimes serious and at times totally thought provoking. Info., Roger Smith, 769-2806.
