| OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2022 | 37 Village Vets I hope everyone enjoyed our speakers at our March Village Vets get together. We will not have a Village Vets General Meeting in April. In May we will have our Village Vets General Meeting starting at 2 pm on Sat., May 21 at the Clubhouse Lanai under the tent. We will be having a barbecue, free for all of our currently paid members. For alcoholic beverages it will be BYOB. We want our veterans to get re- acquainted with each other. We will also be inviting some Marines from the 1stANGLICO at Camp Pendleton if they are available. We also plan to have an off-site trip during July for our members, and are currently working out the details and logistics of the trip. If you still have not joined us this year, your $10 check per person marked "2022 Dues" can be left at the front desk at the Clubhouse, in the Vet's Club folder. Many of our World War II and Korean War veterans have been fortunate enough to participate in Honor Flight San Diego. All of our OHCC veterans who have gone on this trip indicated it was a fantastic experience. Of the 16 million Americans who served in WWII fewer than 25,000 are alive today. Now, it is the Vietnam Vets that will be offered San Diego Honor Flights. The first San Diego flight this fall will be offered to the 2,556 members of the Navy Seawolves who served in Vietnam. By the end of the Vietnam war, it was one of the most highly decorated organizations in Navy history. Further trips will be offered to other Vietnam vets in San Diego County, which is home to about 60,000 Vietnam veterans. OHCC Village Veteran's Club Diaper Drive. The Camp Pendleton Wounded Warrior Battalion requested help for Junior Enlisted families. The help needed was diapers. Many of these families are single parents and often have more than one child in diapers. With inflation being high and their wages low, these families need help. There were 27 Village Vet's and Friends who contributed 44 boxes of diapers which came to a total of 5,000 diapers. The staff at the Wounded Warrior Center was overjoyed with our contribution. Many thanks to all that donated. We thank Greg and Patty Coffey for heading up this worthwhile project and for the contribution from our local Grocery Outlet.
