SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | APRIL 2022 19 By Theresa Rossetti, Resident This month my word is Helpful. If you're reading this in print, you already know you can pick up a copy of The View in The Lodge. Are you aware it's also posted on our website, including many years of back issues? If you happen to be new to the neighborhood, or just getting into using some kind of electronic gadget to use the internet, the website address is https://www. soleradiamondvalley.com. Casual viewers cannot see all of the information posted there; residents must be given access to see the resident only information by registering with the community. Along with SDV documents, financial reports, board meeting minutes, etc., registering for upcoming events can be done online. Once you register at The Lodge and your application is processed through the system you should start receiving all the information sent out by Management. If you've agreed to it at sign-up, you should also be contacted by a member of the Welcome Committee when they receive your contact information. They have a large number of informative items to welcome you, not just about SDV itself, but also the neighborhood around us. It's also nice to meet someone you might not have already met. Aside from the official things, our community has a number of resident controlled ways to communicate. The longest running of these is Sue's Blast, started by one of our early residents as a way to push information out via email. Sue's Blast also sends out updated versions of the Vendor's List, containing contact info for vendors used and recommended by our neighbors. Information on signing up for the Blast is in the Welcome Committee packet. So, what about other social media? We do have a Del Webb group on NextDoor, and a Facebook page, Solera Diamond Valley Neighbors. Both are administered by residents, with rules and regulations for online behavior. While they are a fun way to keep in touch with information, they are not a replacement for going to the correct source with a real problem. They are not operated by our management team, nor does management have access to either and therefore do not know what is being said there. If you have a question about how the community is run, ask at The Lodge, a Board meeting or a coffee with the GM meeting. A Year of "Ful" By Clare Mendez, Resident As I am writing this article it is late February. It's been very cold outside for five days or so and it rained for two of them. I can tell from my weather app that the sunnier days are ahead and I can wait to fill my car's gas tank up when it is nice and warm and rain free. The weather, however, didn't keep me from driving my car to babysit the grandkids in Orange County, or run errands, but the gas tank at some point needs to be refilled. That is usually my husband's job so I skirt around the issue until I now have less than 15 "miles to empty" on my cars electronic gas meter. It never fails, an emergency comes up and I am now afraid that when I am on my way to Hemet Hospital, which, by the way, is 16 miles from home, that me or my passenger might have to walk the last mile. Fortunately for us, we have a second vehicle. Running out of gas can be very dangerous for many reasons and walking to your destination isn't the only one. There's the chance of accident if you are stuck in a precarious place, mugging, damage to your car (perhaps), or just plain looking dumb and getting cold. You shouldn't bet your life on the fact that you will have enough gas for a sunny day. AAA's advice is: Rather than risk running out of gas, refuel before the gas gauge reaches the one-quarter mark. If the Big One hits and gas stations are shut down, or if you must suddenly evacuate as a wildfire approaches, you'll be glad you had fuel in the tank. Fill 'Er Up
