| OHCC LIVING | MAY 2022 | 19 Village Squares Village Squares is delighted to now be dancing with a full group of enthusiastic members, both students and returning dancers. We are pleased to welcome our new full-time caller/ teacher, Mike Haworth. We were fortunate to secure him for our Wednesday nights. He reviewed what interim caller Sheldon Losnik had covered and introduced some new calls. Mike has an easy going, relaxed teaching style and a beautiful singing voice for his calling. Mike became interested in square dance in 1984. He started singing along with the callers, which led him to a caller's class, and began regular calling in 1987. He was known for showcasing interesting choreography and developed a love for working with other callers. In 1999 he gave it up for other things in life, where Mike concentrated on his engineering job and family. He still found time for a little formal study in jazz guitar, composing, and vocal pursuits. Recently, he found himself coming full circle and in 2010 wandered back into square dancing and calling. He has been a key contributor in the development of the Social Square-Dancing Program and has recorded on various square dance labels, both vocally and instrumentally. He is a welcome addition to Village Squares. Mike Haworth, our new full- time caller/ teacher Wow! What a party, our St. Patrick's party was a huge success. Our members really got into the theme; especially amazing dancers, Miriam and George Mozes (at right). The Clay Colton Band was fantastic! Irish rock, American rock⦠with the addition of a fiddle for this occasion, many were doing their own versions of "Riverdance." The dance floor was filled with dancers all night. It seemed no one was interested in going home - so much so that we filled the dance floor and swayed along with our last special song, Sweet Caroline. And yes, it's true: "Good times never seemed so good." Sue Silva and the party hosts, Carol Engstrom, Karla Sando, and Hillarie Combes did a fantastic job with the details to help make the party great. If you are not already a member, it is a great time to join. Our June, July, and August parties will be poolside with a large tent and DJ. Our portable wood dance floor will be "under the stars." If you would like to learn how to get tickets to these parties, print out the membership form on the Social Clubs/ Doo Wop Club's website on Ocean Hills Country Club.com, complete the information, and drop it by the Clubhouse front desk. Include a check for $10 per person for annual dues payable to OH Doo Wop Club. We will send you invitations to all future parties. Hope to see you on the dance floor! Doo Wop and Disco Dance Club
