48 | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2022 | Racquet Club Nothing says more than it's starting to feel like "normal" around here than the chatter about summer parties on the Lanai. Our dinner/dance takes place June 4 under the direction of social chairs Laura Urban and Pele Pyle. After last year's tentative steps reinstating gatherings while keeping fingers crossed, they wouldn't end up cancelled, Bob James and the club leadership team are amping up the activity level in multiple ways for our 400+ members. Our new "Court Events" initiative creates more frequent opportunities for members to get together to play, to learn, and to socialize. Following the well-received February dinking contest, the March "Play & Stay" gave Saturday players a reason to linger after drop-in, enjoy the Juice Bar on the Pavilion patio, and engage in conversations including what to do with the gallon jug of pickle juice someone contributed. On May 19, "Emergencies at the Courts" will provide guidance for players should they find themselves in need of assistance. More small events will be scheduled throughout the year. Paddle Tennis has calendared "Paddle Play & Pizza Put-Away" for May 10, a special event with players rotating on and off the two HOA courts, followed by a pizza dinner. Nothing but fun in store for players and their guests! Herb Livsey and his teaching staff begin the traditional Saturday morning Beginning Pickleball class starting June 4. Lessons are free for residents and loaner paddles will be available for the class. Register in advance at ohrchelp@gmail.com. Additional classes to further develop (or rebuild) pickleball skills debut late spring. Summer's coming, so badminton is back! A 90-minute "Introduction to Badminton" clinic for residents will take place on May 18 from 4 to 6:30 pm at the Clubhouse Courts. Please sign up in advance. Then, starting June 15, play evening badminton the first and third Wednesdays through August. A members-only women's doubles pickleball tournament is scheduled for June 16 and includes final playoffs by division at the Pavilion Courts and a social for players and guests. Details coming soon. So many goings-on to keep track of with the Racquet Club! Thanks to the initiative, diligence, and creativity of member and new Webmaster Heidi James, we've rolled out a new website: ohccracquetclub.org. Give it a look, won't you? Our sincere appreciation to Tim Griffin for doing this work so faithfully since 2016. Questions? Suggestions? Email ohrchelp@gmail.com.
