| OHCC LIVING | MAY 2022 | 47 Swim, Surf & Wellness Member Spotlight - Our beautiful pool draws residents for many activities. Water walking, aqua exercise, lap swimming, sun worshiping, reading, and noodling, just to name a few. Nancy Gordon, swim club secretary, grew up near beaches in a Navy family, and was a junior lifeguard and a body surfer in her youth. She's a retired RN, having been an ICU cardio/thoracic nurse in the UCLA system for 35 years. Nancy is a widow and has two daughters. She is a big believer that exercise keeps us fit and vibrant. She discovered the Aqua Fitness classes when she moved to OHCC five years ago. She feels that these classes work every part of the body and help to keep her joints moving and her balance steady. She also enjoys the Stretch and Balance class and has recently started doing tai chi. Our club's April meeting featured resident Linda Friedman who gave a very interesting presentation on Tapping. Tapping is an energy therapy and is based on ancient healing techniques. It works by tapping meridians on the body (similar to acupuncture) to release negative physical or emotional stress. Tapping is easy to learn, doesn't involve any equipment or drugs, and it's free! Tapping can be used to decrease anxiety, pain, or phobias, among other things. SSW members, please put Thurs., June 9 on your calendar. The club is planning an afternoon of swimming events beginning at 11:30 am. There will be games and contests complete with prizes. Then we'll enjoy lunch on the Lanai. A fun way to meet other club members and enjoy the pool! Our club offers FREE swim lessons! Instruction is tailored to the individual and can range from teaching folks who are water- phobic to those with advanced skills. Prefer a female instructor? We have those. Feel more comfortable with a male teacher? We have those, too. Instructors are club members who offer this great service for free. Contact Ken Krueger at k2krueger@yahoo.com for more information. We continue to sponsor our blood pressure clinic once a month. Come to the Palm Court on the last Friday of every month from 2 to 3 pm. The clinic is confidential and open to all residents. We are looking for a club member who might be interested in volunteering at this clinic once a month. Contact Robin Bleeker at rbleeker53@gmail.com for info. Waveriders: Interested in surfing, body boarding, or paddle boarding? Club member Tim Patel sends email alerts about impromptu wave riding opportunities. For more information, contact Tim at timpentel@yahoo.com Interested in joining our club? Just drop off a check for $10 at the Clubhouse. Make it out to the Swim Surf and Wellness club and ask the staff person at the desk for our form. That way we'll have all of your contact info. You can also email Sara Stewart at s.stewart1@att. net for more information. Nancy enjoys the Aqua Fitness classes with instructor Leesa Singer Nancy Gordon is a big advocate of finding safe and effective ways to exercise. The pool is Nancy's #1 choice!
