To Our Flag on Memorial Day

50 stars on a field of blue
Each star a state as our nation grew
13 stripes, 7 of red and 6 of white
New world colonies against the British might.
A symbol of liberty, and when it's unfurled,
A beacon of hope in all the world.
Flying proudly over sea, mountain and plain
Grounded in love but no stranger to pain.
Bombed and wounded, tattered and torn
But still flying proudly on that fateful morn.
Raised in triumph and glory on a bloodied hill
A symbol of courage to those fighting still.
She's been abused, burned, and dragged through the street
But her honor and glory will not bide defeat.
When we're discouraged and our hopes begin to lag
We should look again to our American Flag
And as she boldy waves, soaring majestic in the air
Remember the men and women who gave their lives to put her there…
