| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2022 | 15 Sun Lakes Committee Reports Golf Advisory Spring has sprung at Sun Lakes. While golfers celebrate the improved weather and playing conditions, the maintenance crew is in a constant battle to keep up. We all welcome the greening grass, flowering of trees and bushes, and hope to keep the ball in the fairway since the rough can often pose challenges that not even a touring pro enjoys. While the maintenance crew focuses on pristine greens and manicured fairways, the challenge in keeping the off fairway areas cut and trimmed create a significant challenge this time of year. The spring growth spurt we all experience in our own yards is a special undertaking when challenged with maintaining two golf courses. In addition to providing the best possible conditions for golfers, maintenance tries to keep up with requests from homeowners regarding perimeter trimming, tree trimming, and trimming around drainage areas and culverts. This time of year it is nearly impossible to keep up with the fine trimming given the rapid growth rate. Sun Lakes has over 8 miles of wall bordering the Championship and Executive Courses creating its own special challenge. Not to mention the number of trees and bushes requiring edge trimming around the bases. Every year at this time there is an increase in calls from residents regarding overgrowth/maintenance concerns. Each month the GAC accompanied by the Course Superintendent and Director of Golf conduct course maintenance inspections and make note of items that need attention. While all maintenance items are important, please be patient this time of the year and allow golf course maintenance to prioritize their work within current staffing levels. Library Advisory Shelving volunteers are needed for a half hour each, two shifts per month. Call or text (909) 973-3143. We are trying to determine if audio books are still being used, as so many vehicles no longer have CD drives. If you still want the library to stock audio books, please let us know by Memorial Day at casakel@msn.com, or call or text (909) 973-3143. Thank you.
