4 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2022 | DID YOU KNOW that emergency vehicles have access to our community through every gate, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year? This includes fire, police, and ambulance. A few months back, a suggestion was made that we lock the unmanned gates (3, 4, 5 and 6) at night to prevent entry by anyone through these gates. The intention behind this was to prevent non- residents tailgating in, as well as preventing walk-in access. The residents' concern was that the emergency vehicles could not get in. But they can! Emergency vehicles have a transponder key that allows unlimited access to our community, no matter the status of the gate. If we lock these gates overnight, ALL emergency vehicles can still enter and our residents will still receive these emergency services. DID YOU KNOW that your participation in the Listening Sessions with the Master Board are instrumental in guiding the Board toward your concerns and needs? These sessions are a chance for all of us to get to know each other better as homeowners and chat about anything that pertains to the health and well-being of our community. Some of the recent topics include: • Lighting within the community, both inside and out, and the feasibility of solar • The irrigation system for common areas as well as the golf course • The level of the water in the hot tubs • The process of 'self-care' on vacant properties • Flowers around the clubhouse – should they be perennials or annuals • The Lifestyles calendar(s)… and much more. What do you want to know? Join us every month on the first Monday at 3:30 pm in the Sandwedge. Come meet your neighbors and get to know your Master Board, one-on-one. Share your ideas. Your input in SO important! ~ Beverly Simmons, Sun Lakes Master Board Member DID YOU KNOW? DID YOU KNOW? Community Awareness Program The Community Awareness Program provides information on important public safety matters and community interest. We are informing residents on how to recognize and report suspicious activity to the police. We will be distributing materials on how to make homes more secure, how to protect property and how to reduce the risk of being victimized. This Community Awareness Program is for all residents who live in Sun Lakes. Our main goal is to keep you safe, updated on incidents that happen here in Sun Lakes, present programs to keep you informed, and have guest speakers to let you know what is happening in our community. We are forming a great relationship with our Banning Police Department and with Securitas. At our March meeting, Chief Matt Hamner spoke on his background and different issues facing our community. He was joined by Lt. Vince Avila who will continue coming to our meetings to give us updates. Mike Romero, Director of Securitas, also gave information on patrolling our community. Our main speaker, Cynthia Mendez, from the County of Riverside's C.A.R.E. division gave a valuable presentation and information on fraud and scams and answered questions. We have monthly Steering Committee meetings. Our next meeting will be on May 3 from 1 to 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse Bus Room if anyone is interested. On May 23, the program will be "Remembering Our Town" at 10 in the Main Clubhouse. There will be a presentation by President, John McLaughlin from the San Gorgonio Pass Historical Society. Please come and join us for information and the history of Banning. Also on May 23 at 11 am, we will have Luis Cardenas, Senior Engineer from the Banning City Water Department. He will be addressing our current water issues. We will also have the Banning Police Department and Securitas give us updates on our community. PREVENTION TIPS FROM SECURITAS: Keep your garage doors closed, don't leave your keys in your golf cart, lock your doors when you are not at home, even for a little while. Hope to see everyone there. Let's all be informed and stay safe. For more information please contact Michele Walter, (951) 202-8009 or email crystalwater@dc.rr.com.
