56 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2022 | POP Tennis POP Tennis, formerly known as Paddle Tennis is a fun, fast sport that can be enjoyed by people at all fitness levels. Though played on a smaller court, with a different paddle and 20 percent deflated tennis balls, POP Tennis is otherwise scored and regulated like traditional tennis. POP Tennis is played on the courts to the left of the Main Clubhouse on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8:30 to 10:30 am (winter/spring hours). Additionally, there is a group that plays Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 3 pm and evenings from 6 to 8 pm. People are free to come and go as their schedules permit. All are welcome and there are always friendly folks to teach beginners the game! Paddles and balls are provided too. For more information or questions, or a desire to be on a decision-making committee, please feel free to contact Jeanne McGuire at (951) 845-8817. **All regular POP players are asked to get their $10 membership fee to Jeanne McGuire. The dues are used to plan parties, tournaments and buy balls and paddles. Hope you'll POP by! Our season has come to an end. We had a great winter league with 20 teams competing. Five teams had a chance to win this season but at the end, only one team started moving away from the rest. That team was More Loose Pins with Carole Barringer, Ron Krogh, Harry Taylor and Tracy Logan. Second place goes to Red Solo Cups with Laura Irwin, Cork Irwin, Clarissa Toro and Andy Toro. Third place is Contenders with Bill McDonald, Shirley McDonald and Bob Naus. Men's Season High Scores are: Jon Skaggs with a Handicap Series of 806. Bob Naus and Jim Edminston with a Handicap Series of 771. Tom Tykodi with a Handicap Game of 318. Cork Irwin and Andy Toro with a Handicap Game of 309. For the women: Sherley Bourland with a Handicap Series of 776 and Carol Davis with a Handicap Series of 739. Shirley McDonald with a Handicap Game of 311 and Pam Obry with a Handicap Game of 283. Our summer league starts on May 9 and ends on Aug. 8. Please call Teri Comerford at (760) 217-9656 to get on a team or to sign up a full team.
