John Michael Roth John Michael Roth was born on August 13, 1939 in Roscoe, South Dakota, and passed peacefully in his home in Banning, California on January 29, 2022 at the age of 82 after a long battle with cancer. John was born and raised in South Dakota, and moved to California when he was 17 years old. He was the second to the youngest of seven children, and was the youngest son of John (Sr.) and Leontina Roth. He worked for the grocery business for over 30 years, but actually got his start at a small neighborhood grocer in his neighborhood in Aberdeen, South Dakota where he delivered groceries on his bicycle as a teen. He then started working for Lucky Stores when he moved to California in 1960. John married Phyllis Fischer in 1960, and divorced 36 years later. He had three children with her: Stephanie (Roth) Lucchesi; Robin (Roth) Silva; and Eric Roth. He is also survived by a Granddaughter, Rachel Davidson of St. Petersburg, Florida, and a great granddaughter, Harper Jo Davidson. He enjoyed running when he was in his 30s and 40s. In 2000, John married Bernie LaBeske and they settled in Sun Lakes. John immediately became a member of Bernie's family: Rick and Kristina LaBeske, and Randy LaBeske; and grandfather to Bernie's grandchildren Amanda, Rachael, Justin, and Addison. While living in Sun Lakes, John took up golf and became quite the enthusiast, earning two hole-in-one titles during his golfing tenure. Another one of his passions was collecting model cars which gave him so much joy. John and Bernie enjoyed 22 years of marriage together and she was by his side until the end. John was a man of God and believed in his faith. He is free of pain and in a much better place with the Lord. He is loved and will be missed by so many. Rest in peace, John Roth. | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2022 | 69
