30 | THE COLONY NEWS | MAY 2022 | CLUB NEWS By Gloria Carroll Our program planned for April had to be changed and instead it will be presented at our meeting in May. It will be of special interest for people engaged in family research, because last month, per Federal Law, the long-awaited 1950 Federal Census was released. We have arranged for one of the best professional genealogists, Gena Philibert Ortega, to give a presentation on what to look for and how to access this resource. Gena will give her presentation virtually (by computer) for our meeting on Tuesday, May 10, starting at 1 pm in the Annex. Gena is a nationally known speaker, author, instructor and local professional genealogist, and has spoken to our club many times. She has two Master's degrees, one in Psychology and Women's Studies and the other in Religion. She is the author of over 100 articles, several books, and maintains a blog called Gena's Genealogy and Food, Family, and Ephemera. She also has served on the Board of the Southern California Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists. Visitors are always welcome. Please arrive at 12:45pm to sign-in. For questions, call Lennie Martin, acting President, at (503) 269-9987. Genealogy By Kathleen Brown, 698-5244 The Colony Players Theater invites you to our annual Meet & Greet, Wednesday, June 1, from 5 to 7 pm in the Lounge. We will be providing snacks and libations, and we will have scripts available for small skits! Auditions for the skits and MCs are on Monday, June 20, at 6 pm in the Auditorium. So please, don't be shy and give it a try. Join us and get to know us, and we will get to know you. We will walk you through our production procedures and how you can get involved either on stage or behind the scenes. No experience is necessary, and we love new faces and fresh ideas. We will assist anyone who may be a first-timer. So, if you would like to be a part of our October production, we would love to have you!
