Actors Studio LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! The Actors Studio Night of Comedy One Act Plays is almost here! The dates for our shows are Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15 at 7 pm in the Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 pm. If you haven't already purchased tickets, please call me as we may be able to accommodate you. We are very excited to present this production to The Colony residents and are already thinking of ideas for a new show, which we hope to schedule in the very near future! Our regular workshops are on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month, and will begin again on Thursday, May 26, from 3 to 5 pm in the Annex. If you are interested in participating as an actor, designer of scenery, costumes, publicity, behind the curtain opportunities or technical support, please come and join us. We always welcome new members to our group. We hope to see you at one of our shows! By Marsha Tobolski, 562-244-9223 The Colony Ukulele Strummers are inviting anyone interested in having fun while learning an easy instrument to join us in the Annex each Friday at 1 pm. We play, we sing, and we laugh a lot. No need to read music and we don't care about how well or badly you sing. Our music ranges from old time folk tunes to pop and rock and roll. Strummers By Judy Moore, 949-468-7375 CLUB NEWS | THE COLONY NEWS | MAY 2022 | 29 Date and time change: Starting on Thursday, May 5, we will meet in the Annex on the first Thursday of each month from 10 am to 4 pm; we should have plenty of time to get a lot done. Bring your machine, sewing supplies, new or UFO projects, and items to show and tell. If you're not a quilter, donated fabrics are available for your use if you wish to join us and make charitable projects. For this first meeting, please bring food to share for a lunch break. This is not a "teaching" class, but quilters are always ready to help solve problems and/or give advice. PLEASE RSVP so we can have enough stations set up. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me. Quilters Workshop By Mary Dettmers, 951-698-3171 Our Artist of the Month for May is Phyllis Penn. She is our "Original Valley Girl," having grown up in the San Fernando Valley and going to North Hollywood High. She has been a member of San Fernando Valley Art Association and was a student of Helene Jukoff, an art instructor from the Valley. Phyllis has lived in the Colony for 10 years. This is her fourth time showing her artwork in our lobby. Like many Colony artists, she also participates in our annual Arts and Crafts Fair. Phyllis paints in watercolor and is also a photographer. She paints abstracts, landscape and portraits of people, though she is best known for painting portraits of animals. She has painted portraits of many pets here in The Colony, who love to "sit" for her. We know you will enjoy seeing her many paintings, and one of them might even be one of your pets. Thank you so much, Phyllis, for sharing your wonderful talent with your community. Artist of the Month By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766 In April, we entertained at the Racquet Club dinner and had a great time and a wonderful dinner. Come check us out and sing along with us. We have a hootenanny good time! For more information, please give me a call.
