CLUB NEWS | THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2022 | 31 The Book Readers will meet Wednesday, June 8, at 10:30 am in the Meeting Room to discuss The Bohemians by Jasmine Darznik. The ghost of old San Francisco haunts the pages of this novel set in the dazzling Jazz Age. This book evokes the thick summer fogs, clang of cable cars and vibrancy of Chinatown a century ago. An aspiring young photographer arrives in San Francisco in 1918 and discovers an artist's colony in the bohemian city heart. The author captures historical details of streets long gone and buildings faded from sight as she tells the story of a city coming of age and its historic characters: Frida Kahlo, Ansel Adamas and D.H. Lawrence. Dorothea Lange falls in love with a brilliant painter and grows into the California photographer who captured the West in the 1930s. The book for July will be The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah and led by Patti Christiansen.
