| OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2022 | 39 The club encourages wide participation by members of different hiking abilities; hikes of various levels of difficulty will be available at the majority of the Thursday/Friday hikes. A rating is listed for the primary hike. When a second difficulty level is listed, this will be for an alternative at the same location, either on the same trail, or a different trail. Every hiker who joins us on Thursdays or Fridays will have the opportunity to hike with like hikers. Each group that heads out into the chosen trail will have a leader. Each group that heads out will have a "sweep," someone who trails the entire group to make sure everyone is ok and will know if someone needs help. The Hikers/ Walkers Club activities are a positive experience for everyone taking part, and is a Club ably led by our president Rich Halkyard. A highlight in April was a four-day trip to the Monterey Peninsula, starting with a walk on arrival day along the ocean, just in front of the hotel at which we stayed in Pacific Grove. The second day found our group hiking a total of five miles along the ocean trail, broken up into the morning and afternoon gatherings. Late afternoon some enjoyed the Monterey Aquarium. The biggest day for us all was a trip into Pinnacles National Park, where we experienced thick foliage, the woods, huge rock formations, caves, and a reservoir. It was an exhausting but enjoyable day in clear air, with hikers getting to know each other as we experienced this hike together and helped each other if maneuverability required assistance. This four-day hike was excellently organized and led by Natalie Sentz and Don Dudley, experienced hikers. May hikes included heading to Eagle Rock in Warner Springs, Lake Poway, and the Cabrillo National Monument's Bayside and Point Loma trails, three very good hikes. As we look forward into June, we will venture to Los Penasquintos Canyon, and later in the month, Miner's Ridge (Black Mountain South Slope). This writer cannot express strongly enough the enjoyment that can be gained by being outdoors with fellow hikers, men and women, all with different interests, but who come together with one common interest — enjoying putting one foot in front of the other, time and again, to hike with others who just like being on the trail. Information on any of these hikes is available from Club President Halkyard at redcisc@gmail.com or (203) 889-8506. Every hike is advertised on our website at https://jkamins37. wixsite.com/walkers-hikers. Walkers and Hikers
