"One Night in Memphis" is a rocking concert tribute to legendary Sun Records recording artists Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley. Over 90 minutes of rockabilly, country, gospel and pure 1950's rock and roll music performed live and backed by an authentic and energetic rockabilly backup band… but that is not all! Read on… Be a witness to a rock and roll royalty jam session with the music and talent that has stood the test of time! True American music featuring the hits, Blue Suede Shoes, Folsom Prison Blues, Great Balls of Fire, Shake, Rattle and Roll, Don't Be Cruel, Hound Dog, and many more with acclaimed national talent, all performed live and guaranteed to get any audience rocking and rolling (in their seats of course). This is not just a concert. You will hear camaraderie between major music stars and it is a momentous eaves dropping on American recording artist icons in their prime. This is something that is rare in today's music business. On July 12 tickets will go on sale in Abravanel Hall. Choral Society The Choral Society is pleased to announce its first ever, "Guest Artist Series." In the next few months there will be three fabulous concerts in Abravanel Hall featuring some of our most prominent local artists. The first concert is Sun., July 17 at 6 pm and will feature pianist Dr. Michael Munson. Dr. Munson received his Doctorate from the prestigious Eastman School of Music. You may have seen him perform at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park where he has performed as guest organist. He also performs with various ensembles all over Southern California. Dr. Munson teaches music at Palomar College and has concertized internationally. Dr. Munson will be favoring the audience with a fun mix of classical and popular music. The second concert is Sat., Sept. 10 at 2 pm and features local favorite, Bets Malone. You have probably seen Bets playing many a lead role on the Moonlight Stage. She will perform the show, "Broadway the Broad Way." You'll hear some of your favorite songs made famous by Barbra Streisand, Mary Martin, Carol Channing, Ethel Merman, Judy Holiday, Fanny Brice and many more! Bets will be accompanied by the incomparable Elan McMahan. The third concert is Sat., Oct. 8 at 2 pm and will feature the dynamic duo of Dorea Tate and once again, Elan McMahan. Those of you who love classical music are in for a real treat. They will be performing beautiful clarinet and piano duets. You will be able to enjoy music by some of the best composers beautifully interpreted by these two incredibly talented artists. We're excited to share these wonderful shows with our neighbors.
