FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2022 5 By Kathy Craven, Board Vice President The Board of Directors (BOD) thanks residents who voted in the recent Board of Directors election. We had a 58 percent turnout overall in the community and almost 1,100 ballots returned, reaching quorum quickly. This was the first election since the CC&R changes to remove delegates and cumulative voting. Three of the sitting Board members ran and won. They are Gracy Luna, Larry Workman, and myself. The fourth seat was filled, for the first time, by a write-in candidate, David Sweet. Next year's BOD election will be held for three seats. If it seems there is an election taking place all the time, it is because in even years four seats are filled and in odd years three seats are filled. The BOD is able to fulfill their duties because of our committee members who volunteer their time as well. They work to lay all the groundwork, make recommendations, and request pricing bids for items the BOD votes on. Most of our committees are actively looking for new members to join. If you are interested in becoming more involved in the inner workings of our community, please come out and see what committee sparks your interest. All the committees and their respective meeting days are listed in the Breeze and are also in the Daily Report. There is one more group that ensures the community continues to be a wonderful place to live — our management company, FirstService Residential. Not only is there on-site management by our General Manager Eric Zarr, our Assistant General Manager Lynne Cesario, and our Activities Director Cindy Graves, there are many cheerful staff members to greet each of us as we enter the facilities. They are not just employed by the community, but are a great asset. The BOD receives many thoughts and ideas from our residents, and if you have information you would like to share with us, there are many ways to reach out. First, there is the Board meeting the second Thursday of every month held in the Ballroom at 1 pm. Each resident who wishes to speak gets three minutes. Next, there is Meet the Board held the third Wednesday of each month at 1 pm in the Ballroom. Meet the Board is a much more informal occurrence where the Board and residents can engage in dialog; civil code does not allow this in a more structured BOD meeting. And lastly, you can email the Board directly at theboard@fourseasonsbeaumont.org. As you can tell by this writing, there are many wonderful people who give of themselves and volunteer their time, like the BOD and committees. And our FirstService Residential employees who ensure our facilities run smoothly. I guess it really is true — it takes a village… Thank you everyone. The BOD looks forward to serving another year! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (714) 722-1301. Take care and be kind to one and other. Message From The Board By Larry Workman Following the elimination of the district delegates and the cumulative votes, the Four Seasons community completed its first Board election. This marks the first time in the 17-year history of Four Seasons at Beaumont that every resident has had a direct impact on the selection of Board members. In previous elections, results could be distorted as all or part of a resident's vote could be attributed to an individual. There have been elections and referendums in the past where obtaining a majority of residents to vote required management to canvass door-to-door. We saw an increase in resident participation this time, with a voting rate of 58 percent. The current increase is encouraging and greater participation provides a more comprehensive look at what the community wants. It is important to remember that residents own and operate this community. As such, your input and participation in committees are needed to provide recommendations that assist the Board of Directors to make their decisions. Brenda Brazile, our Vote Inspector, Elaine Wilson and Sandra Samples, Inspector Assistants, deserve special recognition as our voting inspectors, who gave their time to count and validate votes. As a result, Kathy Craven, Gracy Luna, and Larry Workman, along with David Sweet, a write-in candidate, were elected to the Board of Directors of Four Seasons HOA. They will each serve for a term of two years. Along with the election of Board members, the acceptance of the IRS 70-604 rule, and the Minutes of the 2021 Annual Meeting were approved. The members of the Board will vote among themselves to elect the President, Vice-President, CFO, and Secretary at their first meeting following the election. Our Board of Directors is composed of seven members who serve for two years. To ensure continuity, four members are elected at one election and three are elected the following year. Jerry Monahan, Barry Ginnetti, and Joe Barletta have another year left on their term. The Elections at Four Seasons at Beaumont
