50 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2022
This is the perspective from the Artist of the Month, Denise Treacy:
As a hobby painter, I've always enjoyed using oil paints. Since joining
the Mixed Media Art Class, I have learned to use a variety of media.
I've experimented with acrylics, colored pencils, watercolors, and black
and white sketches. The advantage of working with paint allows for
drama with color and vibrancy. Despite that, I continuously find myself
drawn back to the basic black and white sketches. Creating that same
drama and depth with an everyday pencil is a unique experience.
This particular picture offered a range of challenges. Capturing
the felt on the hat, the cuts on the crystal glass, and the texture on the
leather bound books, while using only a pencil, eraser, and a paper
cone was ambitious. The techniques are challenging but the results are
rewarding.
If you're looking to join a group I recommend this class. You'll make
life-long friends who offer endless support and encouragement.
Classes are Mondays 10 am to 12 noon and/or Wednesdays 6 to 8
pm. There is a nominal $5 fee per person, per session. If you have
any questions, call Rob Kelman at (951) 992-9156. ~ Rob Kelman
