60 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2022 Wild Bunch Billiards The billiard tables have been re-felted and leveled and everyone is happy and enjoying the improvement to their game. We are excited to have a Three-Way Tournament between Four Seasons, Sun Lakes, and Solera in June. The Tournament will consist of both 8 Ball and 9 Ball, giving everyone a chance to bring their best game to the table. The "Wild Bunch" enjoys playing serious, competitive pool, and we invite you to come by the Billiards Room Friday afternoons from 12:30 to 3:30 pm and join in the stimulation of competitive play. Looking forward to seeing you! ~ Gracy Luna, gracyluna@aol. com, (951) 292-3524 Hoop on a Plane Renie Marie Rojas, 61, demonstrating how she walked through the airport with her hula-hoop and luggage. Imagine sitting in an airport with two bags and a hula-hoop on your shoulder. This is how Renie Marie Rojas, 61, traveled on a plane from Colorado to California three years ago. The reactions from people in the airport were quite amusing: kids pointing and shouting, "Look! Look!" while older folks did a double-take. A couple in their eighties stared at the hoop and reminisced about their experiences with it. Rene's friend even asked, "Is that a hula hoop? Are they still around?" In addition to Renie passing through the usual security procedures, a dog was also present while her hands were examined for drugs. This is because hoops are hollow and could contain anything. When she boarded the plane, the flight attendant checked in her hoop, and it came through baggage claim with her luggage. Her hoop story began more than 15 years ago when Renie worked at CurvesĀ® and they had hula hoops. "I couldn't keep that hoop up for the life of me," says Renie. "I learned that finding the right size hoop and moving my core properly played a significant role in hooping successfully. After finding a large adult-sized hoop, I practiced consistently. It took me about three weeks to get it to stay up!" Renie considers the nostalgic toy a health instrument and said it was important enough to take with her. "My hula hoop reminds me that I can do anything I set my mind to. That inspires me!" Renie is no stranger to California. She was born and raised in Orange County but moved to Colorado and lived there for 40 years. She is a Certified Nursing Assistant by trade and supervised a day program for adults. She enjoys swimming, dancing, and native American beadwork. Renie's brother has lived in Four Seasons for nine years and recommended that she and their 96-year-old mother move here together. She and her mother have now been living in Four Seasons over two years. The Hula-Hoop Club meets every Friday at 7:30 am in The Lodge Ballroom. No experience is necessary.
