| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2022 | 31 Makua Hula Hawaiian Dancers MAHALO! Perla Williams and the Makua Hula Hawaiian Dancers thank the community of Sun Lakes for attending their show "More Aloha from the Islands" last month. We appreciated those who made our show a sell-out success! A big contributor to that success is also our Show Director, Joan Lau, who also spearheaded sponsorships. Many in the audience arrived with Hawaiian attire. Leis were provided to everyone as they were whisked away to the islands… The show opened with each lady of the Makua Hawaiian Dancers individually walking on stage to The Island/Where I Live. Very impressive! The guest performers, Puahi's Polynesian Group from Temecula, danced hula and Tahitian and were awesome! The audience was amazed with the talent, grace, beauty, and colorful costumes brought to us by this group. We are fortunate to have our very own Sun Lakes star performers, the fabulous and talented Sheila James and Lori Bell, who both sang Over the Rainbow and What a Wonderful World. Sheila also sang Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered and the audience loved it! Lori Bell returned to sing I'm Alive. Lori was fantastic! Perla Williams danced beautifully, as she always does with her heart and soul, to Imagine and Pearly Shells. However, when she danced to The Moon Represents My Heart, Joan Lau, Show Director, accompanied her by singing this beautiful love song. The audience was deeply moved. Perla also featured Olga Marquette dancing a graceful solo to In Your Hawaiian Way, very nicely done. The Jeann Svarvar Tappers performed with the ladies of Makua Hula their rendition of Blue Suede Shoes. Outstanding! Our Master of Ceremonies, Lloyd Friedman, was wonderful. With such professionalism, he had the show running smoothly and delighted the audience with his comedic wit. We would also like to acknowledge those behind the scenes: Stage Manager - Sandy Etz; Assistant - Stephanie Franklin; Sound - Laura Kosla; Assistant- John Treichler; and Lighting - Dave Klaus. The final performance was a tribute to our Veterans in honor of Memorial Day. Those in the audience who served were asked to stand up for the military group they represented. Shortly after, the Makua Hula Hawaiian Dancers gracefully danced, while Sheila James sang a beautiful rendition of Lee Greenwood's God Bless the U.S.A. The audience left the Ballroom happy and asking for "More… Aloha!" ICC The June ICC event will be held on Thursday evening, June 16, in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom.
