SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JUNE 2022 5 By DiAnne Mangis, Welcome Committee Remember when you were a new resident of SDV? That may have been years ago, or only a few months, but I'm sure you can remember how excited you were to meet new residents or get involved in a club or class or to attend one of the many Lifestyle events. If you are like me, you probably felt a little apprehensive or unsure about attending a club or event for the first time. Remember that feeling in the pit of your stomach as you wonder if you would fit in, or if the people would be friendly, or if you would feel left out? It's hard being the "new kid on the block." As residents of SDV we need to step up and introduce ourselves to those we don't know, be welcoming and compassionate when we are meeting someone who is new or attending a club or event for the first time. SDV is known for being the friendliest community in town so let's all live up to that motto. I'm sure there are several groups of friends who love to get together, whether it is because they all live on the same street, have common interests, belong to the same club, or just all moved in at the same time. That's wonderful and we encourage you to continue to enjoy those relationships. However, when you and your friends are together, whether it be at scheduled Lifestyle events and SDV functions or just hanging out around The Lodge, please be aware of our new neighbors and be willing to include them also. Our wonderful lifestyle here at SDV is for all residents to enjoy. As good neighbors, we need to go out of our way to insure everyone feels welcomed and a part of our wonderful community. If you see someone sitting by themselves, be friendly and go introduce yourself to them and make them feel at home. Ask them to join you and introduce them to others. We need to make sure no one goes home feeling that they will never participate again because no one made them feel welcomed or included. Life here at SDV is all about friendship, caring, companionship and looking out for each other. Who knows… some of those residents you haven't met yet just might become some of your new best friends! By Dianne Mangis, Committee Member The Welcome Committee was established to welcome new residents to our beautiful community and provide them with information to become familiar with all the possibilities here at SDV. Each new resident is contacted by one of our friendly committee members so we may present them with a hospitality gift and acquaint them with life in an HOA. We give them the most recent View Magazine and tell them about all the clubs, committees, classes and lifestyle events that are available. We help them get signed up on the SDV website as well as Sue's Blast. We tell them about the surrounding area and familiarize them with some of the local vendors, restaurants and places of interest. The Committee hosts New Resident Orientation Mixers throughout the year where residents may meet some of the Board Members, heads of our various committees, clubs and groups, and hear from a Chamber of Commerce representative. This is a great chance for the new residents to see all the options available to them and find where their interests may be. Current members are: Sandra Day (Chairperson), Byron Mangis (Co-Chair), Georgeann Wellfare (Secretary), Steve Day (Treasurer), Terry Vise, Irene Cianfarani, DiAnne Mangis, Jan McIlwee and Penny Olson. The WC Committee meets the second Tuesday of each month at 1 pm in the Ballroom. If you love to meet new people and want to be part of making them feel welcomed to our community, we invite you to fill out a Volunteer Request Form at the front desk. The SDV Welcome Committee Remember When… Welce… We're glad y're here!
