62 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2022 Did you know that July was named by the Roman Senate in honor of Roman general Julius Caesar in 44 B.C.? It is now on average the warmest month of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Anyway, back to shuffleboard. Due to the weather warming up for the summer, the hours of play have changed. We now play on Mondays and Saturdays starting at 8 am at the shuffleboard courts at The Lodge until further notice. However, by the time you are reading this article, I am hopeful that the four new shuffleboard courts at The Lodge will be completed, including making all of the surrounding areas safe to navigate. This additional work was started in June and I expect it to be completed sometime around the beginning of July. Watch for the announcement of the opening of the four new shuffleboard courts located where the old horseshoe pits were at The Lodge (behind the pool and adjacent the paddle tennis courts). Shuffleboard is a perfect activity to enjoy outdoors while being physically active. It is an easy game to learn and one can become proficient at it fairly quickly. Our games usually last about an hour or a little longer. We have a great group of residents who play regularly and, of course, everyone is welcome to join in and become part of the "shuffleboard family." We choose different teams each time we play in order to keep the competition challenging and the games interesting. We play for fun, but of course everyone likes to win. So after your morning coffee and/or breakfast, come out and join us. Get some fresh air and a little exercise while socializing with other fellow Four Seasons residents. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me, Marty Rotman, at (310) 948- 1693 or email me at mrtmj@aol.com. Hope to see you at the courts! ~ Marty Rotman For this article my wife said, "Just write same-o, same-o" and she's close to being right because it is challenging to come up with material that sounds different. It's still about horseshoes and playing of the game. The year is moving right along with this being July, and we have changed our starting time to 8 am to beat some of the heat. It's time to start planning third quarter tournaments and socials; there's always something going on. So, if you like to keep busy and have a lot of fun as well, our club will provide all of that and more. We meet every Wednesday at the Summit at 8 am and play until the majority says, "good enough." Our relaxed playing rules are a plus for most of our senior players. I'll see you at The Summit! Our contacts are Ron Erickson at (951) 846-3288, rejlerickson@ sbcglobal.net or Gary Christie at (951) 845-0520, goldtoy@earthlink. net. ~ Ron Erikson Shuffleboard Ladies Putters Sophia has lived at Four Seasons since 2008 and finds putting to be a good, low-impact exercise after her recent surgery. She has played at Yucaipa Valley Golf Club in the past and took some lessons there. She remembers the time when she got a hole in one. Quite an accomplishment! She enjoys the "quiet, peaceful, safe setting." If you would like to join us, we play at The Courts on Mondays at 4 pm and Fridays at 9 am. If you have questions call Susan Wilson at (951) 845-5192. ~ Susan Wilson Horseshoe Club Bocce Club We play at The Summit on two courts overlooking the surrounding valley with beautiful views. With summer approaching and the weather warming up, we will be changing our start times. Our new start times will be 8 am on Tuesdays and Fridays. Also, our Thursday start time will be at 6 pm. Hopefully, we'll see you out there having some fun with a great group of people. If you are interested in learning the game, please join us.
