50 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2022 This is the perspective of the artist of the month, Kitsy Anderson. This spring my husband and I decided to do some painting outdoors. Along a dirt road, we stopped where I saw San Jacinto with the remnants of white from a late spring snow. The hills were green and wild flowers were awash with color. The utility of windmills can be easily forgotten if you focus your eyes on the elegance of their design and sleek lines contrasted against the randomness of nature. It's always interesting how you can look at something over 100 times, yet one day a scene of beauty appears. This painting benefited by my putting into practice some of the techniques I had learned in art class. I truly delighted in looking at things closely from an artist's perspective. The ever-changing light when painting outdoors focuses your mind on the details and contrasts that would otherwise be overlooked with just a glance. There is so much beauty around us. We just need to take time to see it. With Rob Kelman's help, encouragement, and insights of my classmates, I learn something new in each class. Rob tells us that art is a way of leaving a part of who we are behind. I enjoy sharing what I am learning and the sense of accomplishment when I finish something. Come and participate and leave a small part of yourself for those you love. Classes are Mondays 10 am to 12 noon and/or Wednesdays 6 to 8 pm. There is a nominal $5 fee per person per session. The 75-minute walking tour explored the interior of the National Historic Landmark, offering the opportunity to see parts of the hotel which are normally inaccessible to the general public.
