62 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2022 TOPS TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) members have started a healthy lifestyle contest called "Slow and Steady Wins the Contest." Our mascot is the turtle who, through persistent and careful effort, beat the hare in on of Aesop's fables. This time, we will be counting tenths of a pound each week, because five or six tenths of a pound count in the long race to our ideal weight. One half of a pound for 52 weeks is 26 pounds in a year and for many of us that kind of loss would go a long way towards achieving a healthy lifestyle, thus possibly leading to longevity and hopefully having to take fewer medicines. The contest ends when someone loses 10 pounds. The prize will be $50. Most members thought that would be a great incentive. Of course, we will all be winners as we attempt to earn points doing fun, healthful things. This month's "Thinner Winner" was Brenda Brazeal, with Pauline Smith a close second. They lost the most weight. This happens with exercise, mindful eating, motivation, portion control, new recipes, and meeting attendance. Congratulations, you two! You may find that a group like TOPS can help you as well. We meet on Tuesdays at 8:30 am in The Lodge Ballroom. For more information, call Andi Henderson (918) 497-6491. ~ Andi Henderson Bocce Club The Bocce Ball Club plays at The Summit on two courts overlooking the surrounding valley. We play on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8 am, and Thursdays at 6 pm. With summer here, we try to finish by 9:30 am before the heat sets in. Umbrellas help a little with the heat. Hopefully we'll see you out there having some fun with a great group of people. If you are interested in learning the game, please join us. Any questions? Contact me at hanknegrete16@yahoo.com or call (909) 747-7087. ~ Hank Negrete I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July. People outside our complex shot fireworks over my house and I spent the night with a water hose ready to put out any fire. The price of gas has kept me from going fishing. At left is a picture of a 10-pound striper that I caught at Lake Havasu three years ago. Gas at that time was $2 a gallon. Those were the days. I am planning to do a little fishing this month. The weather has been so weird lately that I don't know if the fish will be biting. Only one way to find out and that is to go. One of these days, I am going to sell all my fishing gear and quit fishing. If you believe that, I have some beach-front property in Arizona that I am willing to sell. Tight lines to all my fishing buddies and remember to sell your house to buy a tank of gas and go fishing. ~ Richard Carrasco Fishing Club
