40 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2022 Our Anniversary Party is rapidly approaching, and we hope you plan to attend. The party, themed "All White" in celebration of our many years of togetherness, will be held at The Courts on Saturday, Aug. 13. Tickets are $40 per person and may be purchased in The Lodge, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 4 pm, or by calling Shirley Caldwell at (951) 236-8280 or Connie Bowen at (951) 490-9842. This event promises an unforgettable program, wonderful entertainment, camaraderie, and great food. We are asking attendees to dress in all white for this elegant party. Speaking of great food… Did you know that there is a 'virtual directory' of Black-owned food and beverage businesses located throughout the United States and Canada? It is Spicy Green Book and can be found online at https://spicygreenbook.org/about. This website is an excellent source of information for those seeking to support Black-owned food and beverage businesses. It not only identifies businesses but shares stories of the people and cultures that inspired their creation. Spicy Green Book is a nonprofit with the mission of empowering Black-owned food and drink businesses to compete and thrive in the marketplace. It provides free professional services in the areas of online marketing, advertising, content creation, business development, education, and much more. The founder of Spicy Green Book is Danilo Batson. His inspiration was The Negro Motorist Green Book created by Victor Green. Mr. Green's book was a resource for Black travelers between 1936 and 1964. Black travelers used it to identify Black-friendly businesses and to assure their safety while traveling within the United States. The African American Cultural Club is excited about the remainder of 2022 and our future plans that include activities and events designed to highlight our history and share our culture. Upcoming events are listed below and promise to be amazing. Please mark your calendars, check future Breeze articles, and see the Daily Report for additional information. • AACC Anniversary Party on Saturday, Aug. 13 • Jazz Under the Stars on Sunday, Oct. 2 • AACC Christmas Gala on Friday, Dec. 16 The African American Cultural Club meets on the first Monday of the month at 6 pm in The Lodge Game Room. All are invited to attend and learn more about African-American culture. We will not meet in August, but will meet again in September. If you have any questions, please contact the AACC President, Wanda Valentine, at (951) 544-1606. ~ Jane Gentry African American Cultural Club Four Seasons Veterans Park Three important Veteran dates in September are: VJ Day on the 2nd; POW/MIA Day on the 3rd Friday (16th); and Gold Star Family Day on the last Sunday (25th). In the Veterans Park, flags will be flying to highlight the role of medics and corpsmen on the battlefields as well as the battles in the Philippines during WWII. On POW/MIA Day, we will again have a motorcycle and 4x4 procession from Four Seasons to the Hillside Park in Redlands for a service. All residents are welcome to join the event. We will rendezvous at The Lodge parking lot and depart at 9 am on Sept. 16. Now that the Veterans Park has been dedicated, attention is being turned to what to honor in addition to resident Veterans. We meet the last Thursday of each month at 11 am in The Lodge Game Room and share our ideas. So far, we have discussed a Vietnam statue, a place to honor our dependents who shared our sacrifices, and service dogs who supported our post-service lives. We do need a volunteer who can spend time contacting Veterans and another who would serve as our finance officer. Any Veteran who did not have a rock with their name at the ceremony is asked to contact the front office with their information. ~ Len Tavernetti, ltavernetti@hotmail.com Members and guests enjoy the Juneteenth celebration
