| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | AUGUST 2022 | 3 General Manager's Message By Rick Ruth, CMCA While attending a committee meeting the other day, the subject of contractors and whether or not they should be licensed came up. It got me to thinking that I haven't written about this in a while, so here it goes. We've all seen the guys looking for work at the local hardware stores and most of them would probably do a good job working on your home. The consequences to having someone who is not licensed or insured doing work on your property must be seriously considered. Check your homeowner's insurance policy to see if you have coverage in case someone working on your property injures themselves. Are they insured for the type of work they are doing? As an example, a painter doing roof repairs. Do they have references? What type of work you're having them do will dictate how much you'll want to check on their references, insurance, etc. Also, reviews on Yelp and other sites may provide you with information in searching for a service provider. Ask your neighbors for referrals. If you've contracted with persons for years such as housekeepers, gardeners, etc., and are comfortable with allowing them onto your property or into your home and trust them, you probably are not in any danger of incurring a claim. My goal in all of this is to alert you to be sure you know who you are letting into your home and whenever possible, hire a licensed and insured service provider. If you have a contract to review, PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT! Don't be pressured into signing. If you are unsure of what a contract states, contact an attorney, a relative, or trusted neighbor. There are so many unscrupulous people out there taking advantage of seniors so please be aware. Staff Anniversaries: I'm very happy to announce several anniversaries this month. Maria Donti is celebrating six years with our company serving several roles. One important role is the liaison to the Architectural Committee. She plays a vital role in supporting the Architectural Review Committee's assessment and enforcement process. Maria is also liaison to the Landscape Committee and provides valuable assistance to them. The community continues to benefit by Maria's work ethic and institutional knowledge. Tracie Long, an important member of our front desk staff, is celebrating seven years of service to the community and we are grateful to have her serving the residents. Both of these ladies are excellent examples of our company's core values. Thank you, Maria and Tracie! I am also happy and grateful to be celebrating my 23rd year of managing homeowner associations. The key to my survival in the HOA management business is being blessed to be a part of one of the best management companies in the U.S. I receive continuous training and education and am supported by a great upper management team. I'm also fortunate to be of service to a lot of terrific residents and to work alongside a dedicated and passionate management staff, committee members. Finally, I have benefited from continued support from the Board of Directors throughout my 14+ years at Four Seasons Hemet. Without your support and encouragement, this community would not be what it is today. Happy August, and keep being a good neighbor!
