6 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2022 | Over the years, there have been many, many articles written about our active community. What a wonderful place to live. What a fun place to enjoy our remaining years. During the same time frame, there have been some chronic problems that have not gone away. Your communication link to the community, the District Delegate, has written many times in your district newsletter about our dangerous driving issues. Drivers reach 40 or 50 miles an hour on our streets, break 30 or 40 control arms at our gates, and never stop at the stop signs. There are even little kids driving grandma and grandpa's golf carts illegally and recklessly. Does someone have to get seriously injured or even killed before we follow the rules? There are constant near misses at the Main Clubhouse entrance from Sun Lakes Blvd and at Gate 3 on Riviera. Seeing a 10 year old go through a stop sign and make a left turn in front of traffic in a golf cart gets your attention in a hurry. It appears as we grow older we develop an attitude, "No one is going to tell me what to do!" Since we all know the rules, how about slowing down a bit and using the brake at stop signs? You might save a life — it could be your own. It can be said we have too many rules, but they are in place for our benefit. When reminded of a rule we are breaking (STAND BACK EVERYONE), venom spews four-letter words from men and women alike. This happens too often on the golf course and at the swimming pools. The rules are not that difficult to understand nor that difficult to follow. The reason for the rules is simple enough — to protect the golfers and to preserve our wonderful golf courses as well as to allow our residents to enjoy our pools. Golf courses are not parks to stroll or have children use bunkers as sand boxes, or take your dog for a run in the open spaces. Our swimming pools are not local plunges with kids jumping in and out splashing everyone. Everyone knows most of our residents want privacy to enjoy our amenities. Over the years we have been bombarded with the request to extend swimming hours for children. After many requests, the hours were extended on holidays. Even with that concession, new requests are made for more extensions. It appears the Board of Directors is well aware of the attitude of the majority of residents in our community and will no longer honor any request. All homeowners associations must have bylaws, CC&Rs and rules and regulations. It is exactly the same as a small town with all of its ordinances and laws. Without them, neither entity could function for the common good of their community. Whatever city or town we came from, we were law-abiding citizens. Why can't we be the same at Sun Lakes Country Club? We have the best adult community in the world. Enjoy it and allow your fellow residents to enjoy it too. DISTRICT DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT Please… Just Follow the Rules In an emergency situation, would you want to know how to help someone who is injured, bleeding, possibly in shock, choking, or has a broken bone? We never know when we will be faced with an emergency — you may need to help a member of your family, a neighbor, or friend. To do this, you need to be prepared and trained to administer first aid until help arrives. EPAP is in need of volunteers with first aid training. To better serve our community, EPAP is helping to facilitate Basic First Aid Training Classes here in Sun Lakes. These classes are open to all residents, and will be taught by Sun Lakes resident Linda Myers-Kalb, RN, certified Red Cross First Aid Instructor. Classes are 6 hours long -- you will have a choice of two 3-hour classes or one 6-hour class. The Red Cross class fee per person is $22. Advance registration is required. 1.
