We are now one year away from the 20th anniversary of Four Seasons' incorporation as a Home Owners Association (HOA). We believe we live in a great community. So what makes us special? Our climate includes lots of sun and no snow (a little more rain would be helpful). Our location has great mountain views and proximity to San Diego, Palm Springs, and Los Angeles. We are surrounded by a golf course which is a nice buffer. We are a gated community with a 24-hour roving patrol. Inside our gates, we have a multitude of amenities, including a year-round pool, our bistro, sports courts, a fitness center, multipurpose game room, theater, library, computer room, beauty salon, and others--whew! These are all important factors, but a key ingredient that makes us special are the people who live here. We are a diverse community. Diversity means having a range of people with various racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, religious, and cultural backgrounds and various lifestyles, experiences and interests. This is why we have social events, clubs, Bingo, arts and crafts, and theater productions. This is why we have beautiful landscaping and have become a Firewise Community and help those of us who need comfort and support. We have chosen to live here and abide by our Rules and Regulations (R&Rs). One purpose of these R&Rs is "to ensure that all Residents of the Community will live in harmony." In 2018, one Board message discussed "kindness and civility when interacting with others, and that we should be mindful of our actions and their consequences." Once in a while, some residents deviate from these principles when interacting with our vendors and management staff. We must remember that these folks are just doing their jobs to keep us safe and informed. Your Board takes these incidents seriously and reminds everyone to try and make good decisions when life becomes stressful. Dealing with stress can be challenging. The Mayo Clinic offers five tips to manage stress: 1. Use guided meditation. There are many methods available on the Internet that can help you find five minutes of centered relaxation. 2. Practice deep breathing. Deep breaths taken in to a count of five seconds, held for two seconds, and released to a count of five seconds can help. 3. Maintain physical exercise and good nutrition. Both of these help your body feel better and your mind, as well. 4. Manage social media time. This time might be best spent enjoying being outside or reading a great book. 5. Connect with others. We are social beings and need to have connections with people to feel supported. Relationships can be helpful in difficult times. On Sept. 22, fall begins with many of us looking, hopefully, to cooler temperatures on the horizon. Enjoy resort living in a place we call home. "Home is where love resides, memories are created, friends always belong, and laughter never ends." Unknown.
