SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | SEPTEMBER 2022 11 Wondering if the food in your freezer, fridge or pantry is okay to eat? There's an app for that! Check out the USDA FoodKeeper App. It's easy to use and fairly comprehensive. Give it a try. Submitted by Vivian Bellini, Resident If you're new to our community or have been living in Solera Diamond Valley for a while and want to participate in a really easygoing group of folks, come on down and join the Library Group. We usually meet four times a year at the Clubhouse. Our main purpose is to keep the Library stocked and up to date. It's a great way to make new friends. We receive many donations, and occasionally get duplicate books. We are in need of recruiting a few folks who would like to help us out. As a member, you will volunteer different shifts accepting new contributions, and restock the books that have been returned. We would also love to have a volunteer who wouldn't mind delivering discard books. Another thing we do when our shelves get full, we all get together and "cull" the books (remove old ones and those that have had no attention). This is always a fun event and the job gets done quite efficiently. If this sounds like you, please come join us. By Clare Mendez, Resident Donna and Rich Burgett are crazy for their new furry, family member, Sandy. They came upon Sandy and her litter mates in the parking lot of Abby's Café. A Deputy Sheriff was selling the Maltese Chihuahua mix pups out of the bed of his truck. Donna and Rich went to take a look, but once Donna picked up the precious little dog, she was already falling in love with the runt of the litter. Named for her color, Sandy, is now six months old, and six pounds, with a tail that is starting to curl up. They told me Sandy is quite amusing to watch. Although she is still a puppy herself, Sandy thinks she's a mom. She brings bits of her kibble to her little stuffed tiger toy, lays the morsel down in front of the tiger trying to feed it. When that fails, she just eats it up herself. Maybe next time the tiger will learn to eat. She also carries the tiger and another toy bunny into the other room to put them to bed. She must be a real joy to watch her shenanigans. Sandy turned out to be the perfect pet for them. She is soft and lovable. She is funny. And she welcomes visitors at the door. Best of all, she is aware of the needs of her owners. For instance, when Donna is walking with her cane, Sandy walks on the opposite side of her cane. It must be to make sure not to trip her. Now that's a loving pup. The Library Group Needs You! SANDY'S SHENANIGANS Welcome to adulthood. You get mad every time they rearrange the store now.
