| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2022 | 33 Village Vets We are still working on an offsite for our members, and currently working out the details for an October trip. Amy Forsythe, our guest speaker in July, indicated she would be available to lead our group to sites of interest at Camp Pendleton. She will be going on active duty and will return in early October. There will be a Village Vets meeting on Sept. 22, at the Clubhouse at 3 pm. All members are invited to attend. We hope to have another interesting speaker for you. As usual, refreshments will be served. On Nov. 19, the Woodchucks Annual Toy drive for the enlisted Marine and Navy kids at Camp Pendleton will take place in the OHCC overflow parking lot. Marines from Camp Pendleton will be there to help. A new toy or two or a check would be appreciated as well. As always, the Village Vets will help in this effort. Honor Flight 2022 Returns to San Diego: Honor Flight San Diego has taken many of our OHCC WWII and Korean war Vets to Washington D.C. They are currently looking for a few things. Veterans of WWII, the Korean War era, and now Vietnam Vets who have served in Vietnam, can apply for an Honor Flight, to visit the memorials dedicated to their service at no cost. They are also looking for donations, as the trips are at no expense to the honoree. For more information call Honor Flight San Diego at (800) 655-6997 or online at www. honorflightsandiego.org for an application if you qualify and would like to go. After a two-year hiatus, the RV Club gathered on the Lanai on a beautiful evening for a summer party. The Social Committee transformed the Lanai area into a creative and tastefully decorated space for dinner. Each table had white tablecloths and elegant floral arrangements. They had arranged for a delicious tri-tip dinner provided by Bekker's Catering. They built a RV-themed photo booth for picture taking. Tatis drew ticket numbers and awarded a bunch of prizes to many of the 120 attendees. We listened and danced to live music from several different decades. It was provided by a very talented and entertaining duet. The Electric Slide is always a favorite to challenge our feet and our minds working together! Our President, Skip Harvey rounded up lots of RV Club trivia to challenge our members' historical knowledge. The RV Club was started in 1987 and has had 17 different Presidents to date. The RV lot got started as a dirt storage lot in 1989. Originally designed for 150 RVs, it has been reduced to 134 lots as some lots have been combined to make room for today's larger rigs. It was a fun evening for all! The Social Committee has been working very hard all year scheduling enjoyable and well-planned functions for the club to enjoy throughout the year. Our heartfelt thanks to Chair Tatis Cervantes- Aiken, Sandy Harvey, Meddy Carso, Linda Feinman, Linda Slayton, Barbara Becker and Sue Paloutzian for all their efforts which have helped us to gather, socialize and stay connected. The next regular club meeting is in the Hall on Sept. 27. Social time at 6:30 pm and business meeting at 7 pm. The trip to Pismo Beach area will be held Oct. 23-28. Thanksgiving Trip to Temecula will be held Nov. 14-18. RV Club
