| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2022 | 9
Our Southern California region is well known for its potential of a
major earthquake.
Every day, thousands of small quakes are recorded in California
and Nevada. The San Andreas fault runs from the Salton Sea, through
Oak Glen, to San Francisco, and is said to be capable of producing
major damage in a very large area.
Because of our proximity to this region, the potential for a
damaging earthquake cannot be ignored. Preparedness for such an
event is important since we never know when it might occur.
If an earthquake happens, here are the basics:
• Duck, cover and hold on.
• If indoors, take cover under a desk, table, or against an inside wall.
• If outdoors, move away from buildings, trees, billboards,
telephone, and electric lines.
• If driving, stay away from bridges, underpasses and overpasses.
Stay in car until shaking stops
