8 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2022 | EPAP will be conducting an Earthquake Emergency Preparedness Drill on Thurs., Oct. 20 at 10:20 am. Please place your colored placard in your front window at this time. This event is being held in cooperation with the "Great California Shakeout" event on the same date. Organizations, schools, and individuals are participating in this event, along with EPAP. At 10:20 am on Oct. 20, all Sun Lakes Districts will activate their EPAP emergency teams, set up their Command Posts, and dispatch their Zone Captains to check on all homes in their zones. Medical Rescue Teams will assemble to respond to homes that might have been damaged or residents who might need medical attention. At the same time, the EPAP Operations Center (EOC) will activate and establish radio contact with District Command Posts and with outside agencies. They will give information about the drill to the EPAP Coordinators and will receive reports from all Districts. Emergency power will be used at the EOC, just as it would in a true emergency. In particular, Zone Captains will be looking for the colored placard that you place in your front-facing window to let them know that you are okay. Whenever there is an emergency (or a drill), residents are asked to participate by placing their placard in the window. This is an important part of our EPAP program because it tells your Zone Captain that you are not injured or in need of attention. In addition to checking all homes in each District, Zone Captains will be looking for a specific person pretending to be injured and will be expected to report that "injury" back to the District Command Post. The EPAP Coordinator in the District will keep track of the time it takes to find the "injured" person and will report that information to the EPAP Operations Center via the EPAP radio system. In addition to all this, EPAP teams will be looking for possible downed power lines, leaking underground gas lines, and other possible hazards. Our Sun Lakes Animal Rescue group will be helping with lost or frightened animals. For more information or to volunteer help EPAP, please call our Executive Team at (951) 524-3126. Volunteers are needed now to fill key staff positions and support teams in our EPAP Operations Center. EPAP supports our many District volunteers to help make things work. We provide training, supplies, and support. These are important parts of our service to Sun Lakes when an emergency is declared. This critical function is performed by volunteer staff members of the EPAP Operations Center. Here are some areas where you can share your skills, knowledge, and help us get the job done: PUBLIC INFORMATION UNIT prepares publicity for EPAP, and helps provide information about an event to the media. EPAP PATROL UNIT sets up our generators for emergency power at the Bus Room for residents who depend on oxygen and at our Operations Center to keep us running when the power goes out. The Patrol Unit also assists Securitas to monitor the gates and helps with safety issues as needed throughout Sun Lakes. MEDICAL UNIT maintains emergency medical supplies for all District Medical Teams and helps with training. COORDINATION UNIT helps to make our EPAP Operations Center function smoothly by keeping track of emergency messages and supplies. Can you help us with our mission? Please give us a call at (951) 524-3126, or contact us at EPAP@SunLakesCC.com VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO FILL STAFF POSITIONS AT EPAP
